I have several movies that I have bought on VHS and would like to transfer them to dvd using my dvd recorder. When I try to copy the movie I get a msg that says "material is copy protected, can not copy"

My question is: is there any way to shut off the copy protection on the dvd recorder?

Any advice or help would be great.

Thanks
Bennie Smith

I had read that thread before I posted, I was just wondering if there is a way to disable the copy protection within the DMR-E80. I have copied my vhs movies to my pc and got good picture but when I burn the disc it only burns 2 hrs. I have ran my vcr thru a terapin cd recorder and then to the DMR-E80, it recorded the movie but the picture was bad quality. the sound was fine just the picture was bad

Your problem can be solved by purchasing a little item called go dvd by sima corp. I was having the same problem that I wanted to transfer some vhs movies to disc and I got the same error message but I did some investagating and found this item. I was told that it is legal as long as you don't resale the discs and they are for your own use. I recommend to buy it on line due to the high cost in most electronic stores. I believe I gave 85.00 on line and the store wanted 129.00. Good Luck

Sima has two different "copy enhancers". One is for VHS to DVD or DVD to VHS. The other is for "anything to anything". http://www.220giftcenter.com/macrovisionkiller.htm
As with anything else, shop around for the best price before buying!

Thanks for all the info. A friend of mine let me use his digital video stabilizer. It works fine, but I just dont get the best picture quality that I want.
