My friend's XBOX has a bad DVD drive. It will read games, but they're always glitchy and they freeze often. If he gets a mod chip and backs his games up to the hard drive and no longer uses the DVD drive, will they work properly?

Also, would there be any problems flashing the BIOS or setting up EvoX because of that?

Thanks!

Switching the DVD drive doesn't matter? Is that with or without the mod chip?

Let me get this straight: Say my friend doesn't want a mod chip, but he just wants a new DVD drive. Could he get one and just replace his current DVD drive (regardless of what brand it is now) and it would work? Or, is a mod chip needed to recognize the new DVD drive?

snoosy , you have to buy a replacement xbox dvd drive. Not any dvd drive that works in your computer, but an official xbox one.

And buy a samsung one like the they say above.

Heh yea I knew that much. My friend will most likely just buy a new drive.

His drive was a Thompson, luckily I got a Samsung and never had any problems.
