PS2 Laser Problem

Yesterday I opened up my PS2 and opened my dvd drive cover plate. Then I began to turn a white dial near the top of the drive (it has a groove in the shape of the pentagon) anti-clockwise. After a while the whole black module dropped (it is a small plastic frame)and I turned on my ps2 again but none of my games could be read so I kept on turning the dial until every game and back-up copy could be booted. My problem is that now my laser can't read some scratched dvd-r movies and I was wondering since the black frame dropped does that mean that my laser is adjusted properly and playing dvd-rs and cd-rs wont damage my laser anymore?

hey i have the same problem evry time i put in my game it wont play it until i press the laser and it works fine but it is realy noisy while am playing a game
