Problem with Philips compatibility with DVD-R.

My Hardware: (all with latest firmaware)
Pioneer A04 Burner
Toshiba SD-M1202 DVD-ROM Drive (for PC)
Philips DVD958 Player (Stand Alone)

Software:
Various Authoring (DVDit, MyDVD, Ulead, Pinnacle Studio 8, ...)
Burning (VOB6.4 and Nero 5.5.9.0)

Thanks to the info on this forum I can now get DVD-R Videos to play in my Toshiba PC Drive.

My problem is the Philips player, it just won't recognise the disks. It reads and reads then spits the disk out.
Several compatibility lists include this player for DVD-R and/or DVD+R but I'm not sure how reliable they are.

Should I send my A04 Burner back and get a DVD+R device instead?

Has anyone managed to burn a disk that works on this player?

I've gone through about £80 worth of disks (various brands) and I've run out of ideas.

Any comments welcome,
Thanks.

It almost worth buying a new player. If you are in the uk try WWW.121cdr.co.uk they have a couple of good budget players in at the moment.

To AndyRoo,

I've been thinking about that, I just want to be sure I'm not burning these disks incorrectly.

Thanks for the link though.

I finally managed to get a disk to play on this machine.

If anyones interested I'll list what I did, but I'm going to do some more experimenting to see if I can find out what was wrong with my other disks.

Yeah I'm interested, as I have pretty much all your hardware, but have not had problems. What did you do special last time, so I can avoid making the same mistake myself.

Paul.
