Motorola is reportedly sending out cease-and-desist letters to sites that are hosting Droid X Android 2.2 Froyo custom ROMs, forcing them to remove the ROMs from their sites or face legal ramifications.

Why is motorola still acting like such bitches! Its already been legalize so that people can root their devices and yet they are still trying their hardest to lock down security and making a fuss over something like a leaked rom? So wha if people get it, won't they get it a week or two later anyway? And so what if it messes up the phones of people who choose to use an unoffical update. Its the risk their taking.
This is really annoying; we have an open-source OS with an open-source keyboard...and motorola decides that not only must they create a closed-source keyboard, but they should prevent their own users from using it on a cooked rom. Not only that, but the keyboard on this device is junk...the cooked roms should just inclue swype, then Motorola can go torture some kittens or something.

You really thought wrong on that one buddy, well I far as I know Motorola is firmly against it for some reason. I don't know about Google.

Google is certainly in favor of rooting phones; that is why all the tools come from them. Motorola is another story, but at least motorola devices tend to come rather functional, and not needing root to do many of the basic things that other Android phones need root for.
If you are doing wifi tether without root, then you are probably paying for it...root gives it to you for free.
