Burnt Mod Wires on Magic V 50K

I got my PS2 v9 modded about 4 months ago with the Magic V 50K. Recently it stopped working I brought it in for repair and the wires that were conncected to the mod chip were burnt. Does anybody have any thoughts or experience on how to prevent this from happening in the future?
