Hi all - happy new year.

I guess im a little lost here but could someone tell me exactly how i burn a dvd movie to dvd-r. I have the Nero with supported dvd, but that doesnt seem to recognise my pioneer as the right model, and when i try and use the wizard the options for DVD video and audio are grey'd out, leaving only dvd data.

I do have Prassi but im a little lost with this too (i feel like such an idiot!). I have ripped the files with Smartripper using the backup function, so i have all the files as they would be on the disk - now all i need to know is how to burn them??

Please help a newbie....

Also i read in previous threads something about QuickBuilder but i cant seem to find this on the web anywhere - does anyone know where i can get a copy?

Many thanks

you can use Prassi to do this. When the wizard comes up upon Prassi startup, choose data disc. Then, drag-n-drop the video_ts directory onto the prassi. Prassi then performs a somple check of the structure, and begins the burn. Pretty easy if you know what is required. This has worked fine for me. I believe you need the latest Nero to do what you're trying to acheive.

Hi i have tried that but have a new problem - sigh.

With Nero i can get it to regonise the drive and burn no problems - it didnt work properly, all i got was a a couple of good scenes and then blocking and sound stuttering.

However Prassi recognises the drive but hangs on "Initialising Disk" and then after a couple of minutes errors with "Data Disk Error - Error 10 at sector 22".

has anyone else had this problem? Im using XP - and i have Nero loaded too. Ive tried taking the auto notifcation off but doesnt help.

I also have Instant CD/DVD loaded - can i use that and if so how? Thanks to everone for their help.

I have now burned three dvds with no sucess - Ahhhh!!

first one i used Nero to make an image of the original and burnt it to dvd - it came back with some media errors so i wasnt supprised when i put it in the player and it played the intro ok but then the film had massive blocking on it.

The second time i ripped using Smart Ripper to my hard drive (making sure it was ALL the files) and then burnt it to dvd. This time the picture was fine but it only works in my pc. When i put it in to my dvd players they all say cannot read disk.

I checked the directory and it seems fine - except that the label is not the same. The directory sructure and files are identical though.

Third time i used Prassi copy (which i eventually got to work) and although it didnt report any errors i got basically the same result as the first time i tried it. The intro about copyright, etc plays great but then as soon as the main menu come up - massive blocking.

The last one might be becuase Prassi doesnt support XP according to AFC (thanks for the info) but i have tried record now max and that always gives me an error about canvas drawing??

DISAPOINTED!!!

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you so much for you help.

I add another question for you assistance!

When i use SmartRipper in backup mode it goes through and rips all the files to my hard disk - but when i use the verify program in RecordNow Max it says that in vob1 - 5 there is a difference at byte 2069.

Is this normal or should they be exactly the same to work?

Ok i finally got it to work by changing the SmartRipper settings to NOT de-region or Macrovision the film (i have my doubts if this actually made any difference becuase most people seem to have these settings on) and then using the Recordnow max that i downloaded again which seems to be ok. Not sure why it didnt work before but hey..

The only thing is of course that this is only a 30 day trial version of the software so i guess i will have to go and buy a copy. Little peaved as i consider that i kinda bought it when i paid for the burner and got Prassi (which i understand is the old version and doesnt work with XP).

Oh well...

Thanks to everyone who helped me on this.

Happy new year.....

glad to hear it's working now. I was using smartripper 2.41, on win2k. de-reion-macovision worked fine. Perhaps your software 'mix' was not too kind to you...
