Hi all. I searched for some info on these forums but couldn't find a specific answer to my problem. So here goes.

I received my Pioneer DVR-107D today, and a 25 spindle of Datwrite Grey DVD-Rs.

I've made three coasters now using Nero Ultra 6.0.0.0.

I get no errors while making the discs -- everything goes ahead fine. Nero says the burn completed successfully.

But when I view the discs in Windows Explorer there is nothing on the disc, and when I view it using Nero InfoTool it also says there's 0MB on the disc. But if you look at the disc, you can see that it has in fact been burnt to. This happens when I put the new DVD ROM into my Pioneer DVD 106 (DVD ROM drive) or the 107 burner.

What on earth is going on? Is it he media? have I wasted my money on duff discs?

If it makes a difference, the burner has firmware revision 1.13. I've downloaded 1.15 but not flashed it yet incase it's something simpler...

Any help much appreciated.

Try playing the movie on your pc with Cyberlinks powerdvd or Windvd.

Also, check for media compatility at www.dvdrhelp.com.
You can also check the media compatibilty of your home players here as well.

Click on the link for dvd writers and in the space type in 107, this will be sufficient to give the desired search results for your writer. This will give a list of the media thats been tried and what your dvd writer prefers.
Also, it never hurts to upgrade the firmware. But do so with caution..
Hope this helps.

I probably didn't make it clear that I'm making data DVDs to backup my PC -- these aren't movie DVDs I'm making.

I did search on the Pioneer page, and found a list of certified media -- a guess what, the Datawrite discs aren't on there. Bum.

I'm still puzzled why Nero would go and burn everything successfully though...?

I've had instances where a supposedly good burn, shows nothing at playback. Guess why?
Jackleg media A.K.A cheap media.
The quality of the media makes the difference, believe that.
Unfortunately, DVD technology has no standard, there is a learning curve, unlike cd's which are load any blank disk and burn.

Try a sampler pack of the quality media.

Good Luck.
