when I try to convert a wav file to a riff-wav CDex just makes an error beep and no file is created. This happenes no matter what the size of the file or file name. When I try to open the wav file that DVD2AVI created in winamp or media player I get a missing codec message.

any suggestions?

You're setup for different harddisks or at least different directories on this, right?
Set that stuff up in Options>Settings>Filenames and you might as well set Filename Format to Artist - Track Name while you're in there.
Wait a minute, a RIFF WAV is an MP3 with an information header. You cannot convert a WAV file to RIFF WAV, you have to rip it to MP3. For gawd's sake use Q=0.
The RIFF WAV is an old trick we use, to interleave MP3 audio with VirtualDub. I know, I could use VDubMod but WTF.
Instead of the DVD2AVI WAV file you could do the audio yourself using BeSweet and Azid. I don't know what DVD2AVI is giving you, or maybe trying to convert it has mucked it up. Are you using DVD2AVI standalone or with GordianKnot? The DVD2AVI-Audio thing is just a GUI for BeSweet, anyway, I think.
Any PC that plays a CD should play a WAV, so you shouldn't get any codec messages.
Let us know what you find out.

I DLed BeSweet but I am not familiar on how to use it. Do I convert VOBs to RIFF-Wavs with this program and then proceed with this guide:
http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd2divx_anamorphic.cfm

?
I was using DVD 2 AVI alone

thanks

What is your overall objective?
I use SmartRipper v2.41 to generate files on harddisk.
Enable stream processing, select audio track and Demux to separate file: will create VOBs and AC3 file on harddisk.
Open BeSweet, ignore most of it and select AZID 1 tab.
Point it to the azid.exe executable. Select AC3 file to open, select filename and directory to save. Downmix levels tick LFE to LR channels -3db. Normalize to 100%. Dynamic compression normal (or heavy, for action/adventure with much gunshots/explosions/sirens).
That's it, it will scan AC3 twice, first time sets peak volume level. It will generate genuine CD-quality WAV file (except, it is 48kHz). Once you have the WAV you can use TMPGEnc directly on it for VCD MPEG, or use CDex to compress it to CBR MP3 or RIFF WAV MP3 for use in DivX AVI.
There are some guides here & there, to help. Doom9.org is a useful resource.
Gotta go,

that,
or you can still use DVD2AVI, under audio>output method choose Demux all, and not decode to wave.
you can use the AC3 straight away if you want the quality.

converting it, i use headac3he, also available at http://www.doom9.org/

you need to install the dll of azid and other codec, available at the creator's website. and its GUI.

you can straight away use the audio and not converting it. you'll need the decoder to play it.

the same way you mux mp3, but now its with AC3. you might need virtualdubmod, or at least a software that recognize AC3. mind that some audio can be quite big, of course when it uses 48kbps for 5.1 channel. if its small, like 224 to 256kbps, i'll say just use AC3, if you want really small audio, only then convert it.
