Ugh... I want to rip files from my DVDs so that I can edit the content in Video Vegas but I don't think Video Vegas supports the file format I can encode to... anybody else doing this? What do I want to encode to? How do I do it? I was Using Smartripper...

I'm too new at this.

Ok... I think I found a good solution... DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc seem to be a GOOD idea judging from your guide here at afterdawn... except Win XP won't unzip them... either that or the download is really corrupt.... ugh... helllp...

Sonic Foundry Vegas Video is a commercial product, and a very good one at that.. however, as with all commercial products, you pay for what you want.. and in this case, if you wanted to do MPEG1 and MPEG2 encoding, you would need to purchase a separate plugin. You can read more information about this from this website: http://www.sonicfoundry.com/PRODUCTS/NewShowProduct.asp?PID=612

hope this helps.

EDIT: I posted the above response prior to your 2nd post.

Yes, using smartripper in conjunction with TMPGenc is a great combination. As far as unzipping them goes, XP comes with built in support for .zip files.. if you cannot open them even with this built in support, then download winzip, shareware program that does not need to be registered in order to have full functionality.. http://www.winzip.com

Thanks for posting back to me... I really appreciate it... a couple of things I should mention though...

I never actually purchased Video Vegas,,, I'm just using the free trial version.

What I have is a VOB file. (I ripped the DVD)

I have to chop up the content using Video Vegas as my editing program.

I don't want to buy anything if I can avoid it, I just need this VOB file encoded to a format I can use. I tried downloading DVD3AVI and then TMPGEnc but the downloads don't work. I need more help.... :(

***What I am trying to do ultimately: Take content from a DVD, chop it up and re arrange it in Video Vegas, then play it in Media Player.

So far I'm stuck because Video Vegas won't open a VOB file.

Oh should also have told you.. I did try the unzipping software in XP the error message said "no files to be extracted" which made no sense to me since I must've downloaded SOMETHING right? So I tried "opening" the files but it said they were "invalid or corrupt".

So I'm taking your advice and downloading WinZip.

*sigh* my deadline to get this allll done is Friday... I'm gonna need LUCK ... and probably more HELP :(

*sigh* there are really great guides on this website to help you do just about anything you need to do, unfortunately, you need to get the software installed before you can follow any of them, and certainly before anybody can help you further.

Win-zip worked! I got the software...

yaaaaay!

Following the guide however, I didn't get the WAV file for some reason...

booo... am trying something to fix this....but if can shed any light on this situation I'd sure appreciate it. Thanks for helping so far... it worked. :)

Other problem is Video Vegas 3.0 demo version seems to not support Mpegs. I am remedying this though....am downloading the full version as we speak. That will take another hour or two.... *shrug* oh well.

I was merely asking where she was from, for all I know she could be my sister.. not many women named Krysten with the same spelling as that.
