I purchased DVD X Copy Platinum recently and am getting frustrated with not being able to burn a DVD at all. Whether I?m using the Simple or Advanced version, the program will read the original DVD okay, but then when I?m prompted to insert a blank DVD, the dialog box stays grey and I nothing happens. I even downloaded from the site the DVD Xpress trial version and get the same results; can?t write the DVD or the drive can?t find DVD-R. I?m a newbie to this whole process and am thankful for the guides you guys put out there (it?s a little irritating to pay big money for a program and then not even have instructions to go with it!) I need help and any advice is truly welcomed. My computer is brand new with duel drives (NEC DVD+RW ND-2100AD and SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-616E) and I am using Verbatim DVD-R blanks. I?ve even tried setting the compression rates below the recommendations from others on the site, but still get nothing What am I doing wrong and is this a common problem? Shouldn?t this program be easy as 1-2-3????? Thanks.

Quote: My computer is brand new with duel drives (NEC DVD+RW ND-2100AD
The key word in that quote is NEC DVD+RW
Quote: I am using Verbatim DVD-R blanks
Try using DVD+R disks :)

Do you know where the log file is? The manual for platinum is in there. They don't make it easy to find.
The only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask. If you don't ask you will never know.

Did you run Drive Select to tell Xcopy what burner to use?
It's part of the setup process.
You can run it from your shortcut that Xcopy put in your Start/Program Files Folder.
Look either in 321 Studios or DVD Xcopy Platinum, 321 Studios should be DVD X Rescue only, but check both to make sure.
If you deleted it just go into Windows Explorer to the Program Files\321Sudios\Platinum folder.
Double click on the Driveselect.exe file.
Hope that fixes things for you.

rbossom, your still going to need +R/RW disks. The Verbatim -R's will not work on that drive. Unless you wanna flash the drive. Make it run as a 2500A +/-RW.

Success!!! Thanks for all for the input. Note to newbies....check your DVD format and drives first. I didn't find the log with the platinum instructions, but I think with the oodles of guides and user-based tests represented on this site, I think I'll be able to get the hang of it using the program without it.
I did click on the 'Select Drive' icon to choose the correct drive, but nothing happened; so I'm assuming it found the correct drive since I was successful in burning my DVD.
I saw a forum earlier today which talked about removing the 321 DVD Backup Screen that is copied onto the burned DVD and wondered if someone could re-direct me to the correct forum for more information about this topic.
I have downloaded DVD Shrink and Decryptor and will try them in my next run. Again, thanks for the tips and all the great information out there to help us 'newbies'.

Why not just use the search for 321 gone if you can leave a post you can go look for it I was like you when I first started. Why look for anything if you can just do a post and ask for it right? Wrong! If you just type what your looking for in the search you should get a lot of hits for it. Some times you will get your answers faster from the search. Just to tell you I put 321 gone in the search and it had about 15 or 20 hits for it. Good luck not trying to be rude. Good luck burning.

Thanks. I just wasn't sure what keywords to use in the search function at first, but then I did find information regarding 321 Gone for what I was looking for.

I'm sorry I was not trying to be rude I had a bad night just to a search for 321gone. You should try doing a search first before you post it took me a while to understand that. Who likes to answer the same question 15-20 times. So once again I'm sorry and try the search you wont believe how much stuff you will find with it.

rbossom,
'I did click on the 'Select Drive' icon to choose the correct drive, but nothing happened; so I'm assuming it found the correct drive since I was successful in burning my DVD."
This in fact solved your problem.
You can go in there again and hit the selector arrow on the right, your drives should appear there, highlite the DVD drive.
