DC++ Active vs Passive

Hi!
I've got a problem with DC++ connection settings.
I tried "Passive" first (LAN, proxy, etc.) with 6 slots (2-3 hubs on).
It worked but I wasn't really satisfied with download speed rates (average of 0.5 kB/s per download).
Then I tried "Active" (IP - the same as for explorer and some random port). It did look better, though I only got 1 permanent download (instead of usual 3-4) but the speed went up to 3.0-6.0 kB/s.
It worked for couple of hours and then suddenly it all went off - unless I changed settings back to "Passive" mode.
I'm puzzled.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
