Hey everybody. Just wanted to hear if anybody has had any issues with using 8X media in a 2X burner? I know they are supposed to be backwards compatable; but I know we've all seen stuff that is supposed to be compatable and it isn't.

My local supplier just got 4X and 8X Ritek's in, but the 8X stuff is the only one that's unbranded. I don't like to use the branded stuff, because my customers don't always understand how I got their 140 minute video onto a disc that says 120 minutes on it.

I appreciate any input.

It might work, but is a huge waste of money since you can only burn at 2x. You can get 4x unbranded ritek for $0.72 each at meritline.

I know Sly, but living in Canada once you add shipping and duty to those prices they are pretty close to what the online price is, plus I like supporting my local shop. That way they saty in business and if I get a large order all of a sudden it's a 10 minute car ride to get discs.

The 8X discs are going for $80, or about $1.14 US per disc.

You probably should ask the manufacturer of your burner if it will work. I know that the 2x pioneer drives needed a firmware update to burn on 4x discs or the drive would be damaged.

Hi Ken, you will most likely need a firmware up-date for these to work on a 2x Burner. My advice lol, get an 8x burner since they are around $100 now lol. OR head over to the firmware forums rpc1.org and ask <Nil or Flashman what they think with your current drive.
