I've seen DVD-RAM 9.4GIG DVD's for sale but have not seen any 9.4GIG DVD-R. I know that DVD-RAM is not compatiable with most dvd-players. My question is why can't you buy 9.4GIG DVD-R. And if you can, can you use DVD Decrypter to burn dvd's larger than 4.36GB without deleting trailors and other information? thanks for your help.

As far as I know 9.4 Gig, recordable, DVD-R/RW discs don't exist, yet. At least not that you can buy in a store. It would make things so much easier if they were available

Of course there's 9.4GB DVD-R Media in Market.
Supermediastore.com has it.
It's a double sided DVD-R Media.

But that only provides a minimal solution to the problem, how to encode a whole movie in one go, and not have to physically break the movie up, and *then* you still have to interrupt your viewing by flipping the disc over.

Really *minimal* solution......

Thats right, I wish you could just buy a dvd-r that can hold 9.4Gig on one side. Has anyone heard of DVD-18? it can hold 17.08 gig and is doublesided. I think it will work in most new DVD players and would allow you to burn a whole movie on one side without worrying about the 4.36gig barrier.

And to clarify things a little bit, I say this again -- even if there would be dual-layer DVD recordable discs, which there aren't and probably wont ever be, they would ___NOT___ be 9.4GB, but 8.5GB instead, the dual layer structure does this. Even the name says this:

single layer == DVD-5
dual layer == DVD-9, NOT DVD-10 -- DVD-10 is a name that means two-sided single layer discs just like DVD-18 means two-sided dual layer discs.
