Hello. I'm new to all this DVD conversion stuff but after a day of downloading various utilities and searching the forums I decided to post.

I'm trying to capture short clips off of a DVD and save them to my hard drive in .avi format so that I can edit them in Adobe Premiere. I have successfully ripped the VOB with DVD decrypter, but I can't get DVD2AVI to actually make the conversion to AVI. If it simplifies things at all, I don't need the audio off the DVD!

If you don"t need the Audio then you don"t need to convert the Files into anything because all VOB files are is Mpeg2 files but with Dolby AC3 audio and Premier can Load Mpeg2 files it just can not handle the Dolby AC3 audio, so all you need to do is use your ripping Program Like "Smartripper" and go into the Stream processing Settings and De-Select everything avvept the Video track and then choose to Demux the Video to a seperate File, and then rip the DVD and the DVD will get ripped as a .M2V Video file that you can load into Premier because Premier will accept Mpeg Video files....

Actually I just tested it and Premier will Load the VOB files also it just doesn"t recognize the audio so you can load the VOB directly into Premier.....
You probably need to have a Mpeg decoder installed on your System but everyone should have one of those..
It is better to Load the VOB or M2V Video files into Premier as opposed to Converting them to AVI first because converting them to AVI will Just degrade the Quality...Actually editing in Premier will degrade the Quality because Premier will have to Re-encode the File when it renders the Output file, If you used a proper Mpeg editor like the "Womble Mpeg Video Wizard" which will let you do Frame accurate editing of Mpeg1 or Mpeg2 files with Dolby AC3 audio and do Transitions and some effects without re-encodeing the whole file so you don"t loose any Quality...Or if you get the MainConcept Mpeg Editing Plugin for Premier then you can do the same type of Editing in Premier accept for the AC3 audio ......
