ok, iv gotten fed up with looking everywhere for little pieces of info, so im puting it all one place!

ok, in the begining i was really mad at the speed of torrent fils so i went out hunting on how to make them faster,

getting to your router

go to start, run, cmd
in cmp type in ipconfig/all

this will give you a list of ip adresses, info on your network connection and other stuff like that, now if you have 2 monitors or acess to 2 this is very usefull, keep the cmp window up in one, it helps, otherwise copy down the IP adress, DEFULT GATEWAY, SUBNET MASK and your good to go.

now, type in the defult gateway into your internet explorer browser window, if you dont have internet explorer this MAY not work, depending on what browser you use.

this will bring you to a log in screen, on most routers a defult user name can be found in your manual, unless you have changed it, if you cant find it try ADMIN as the password and user name or ADMIN and 12345 as the password.

NOW, differnt routers will have diffent looking screeens, i have a linksys befsr41 so its configured like most linksys, the location of the topics im going to state may very depending on the router make.

normal port forwarding

first of all, update your firmware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this is a must, if you have your router's model number you can type it in on google " (company name) (router model number) firmware" you may have to add "download" at the end.

after that, search around for something called "port forwarding" or "port range forwarding" or something of the sort, the newer routers may call it something differnt, but it should look about the same on all routers.

ther shold be a screen that says APLICATION with a blank, type in "Torrent" (no quote marks) then after it there will be 2 boxes, they may say anthing fron START TO to INT. but it will be big enough for 4 numbers to fit. type in 6881 in the first and 6999

(yes, 6999, i have found that many fast BT cliants use the ports above the normal 6888, howerver setting the ports may have unintended consiquences that i cannot predict and i take no responcibility if you screw up your computer or anything else)

ok, now there will be ether check boxes or a text box with an arrow (i forget what they are called) and there will be TCP abd UDP, check or select both. then type in your IP adress from the cmp, i had a bit of trouble with it because my comptuer uses .102 and the norm .100 so i set up 2 of the same, then, you have to check the box or click ENABLE thne apply.

UPnP ports!!

The next part is for UPnP forwaring, again, look through your router for something that has the words UPnP in it and click it, it should bring you to a new page that looks a bit similar, do almost exactly the same as before, this time only select TCP instead of both, then press apply.

port triggering!!

NOw, we come to port triggering, again, look for it through your router's software, on mne it brinds up a new window that looks similar to the others, type in Torrent in the aplication name, in trigger port range type in 6881 there will be a ~ the after it 6999 then do the same for INCOMING PORT RANGE. press apply

that should do it
