Detailed problem with flip-top/smd (v7 PS2)

My PS2 will boot original DVD game everytime.
My PS2 will boot original DVD game using the SMD DVD loader everytime.

My PS2 will not boot any burned DVD game using the SMD DVD or CD loader discs.
It did boot DVD burns in the past, but this is the first time I have tried to use the PS2 in about two months. I just got a burn of DDRMax2 and wanted to try it. However, my old burns wont boot anymore either.

The burned DVD game in question has been verified to work on a friends flip-top/smd PS2. I borrowed his SMD DVD loader disc and still can not get game to boot.

The weird thing is whenever it tries to read the DVD game the PS2 makes a rapid-fire "rattling" sound. Like duh-duh-duh-duh-duh-duh. Ive opened the flip-top cover and watched, and it is the laser assembly "bouncing" off the center spindle. Its not actually hitting it of course, but its moving as far as it can.

The only thing I haven't tried that I can think of is trying to clean the laser lens with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol.

Any tips on cleaning the lens? Or any suggestions on what else I can try to get this to work?

Thanks for the info.
Of course, cleaning the lens fixed it.

The top post in the forum should have a topic of "CLEAN YOUR LASER LENS FIRST" and be stickied. :)

On a side note, I like DDRMax2 so much I went out and bought it anyway to support the franchise.
