avi to mpeg with TMPGEnc best configuration??

how much bitrate should I set in TMPEGEnc to get the best result from avi to mepg conversion? any other things that's important in the configuartion setting part?

Depends what you're trying to achieve. If you're aiming to have VCD-compliant MPEG-1 clip, you can't tweak the bitrate settings, because VCD has static 1150kbit/sec bitrate that cannot be changed (or otherwise it's not VCD compliant anymore). SVCD has its own limitations as well.

And obviously it depends on your original source -- crap quality AVI doesn't need as much bitrates as high-quality 2-CD DivX ripped from DVD when converting to MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 and aiming to best possible results.

Only advice that I can really give you is to try with various settings -- take a 5-min clip of your source (you can select the frame range using TMPGEnc so you can use only part of your original clip for testing) and try various settings.
