I am trying to turn VHS tapes into DVD's for viewing on a DVD Player. First time doing this. I have a capture device and I have the VHS captured to a mpeg on my computer. I need to see if someone can tell me what software I need and in what order I need to do the software in. I would greatly appreciated the help. Sorry if this seems stupid.

If this Mpeg file you captured is DVD Compliant meaning you captured it useing DVD Settings then all you need to do is Author the File to DVD useing a DVD Authoring Program...(If it is Small enough to fit on a DVD)...

The DVD authoring program will let you make Menu"s and Chapters and it will format your File with the menu"s and Chapters to a "Video_TS" Folder and then burn it to DVD-R.....
A really easy to use DVD authoring program is "Tmpgenc DVD author" but if you want to make a More complex DVD with nicer Menu"s then try "DVD-Lab" ...Both programs have 30 day demo"s available so you can try them out...
There should be links to these Programs in the Software section of this Site....Cheers

hey ,
I'm using ADS instant DVD and it's a device for capturing the video from the VCR , and I'm using the "capture wizard" and it's a program comes with the device , and for editing I use Ulead Media Studio or Ulead Video Studio .

in that case you can convert the MPEG video file by using a converting software BUT the quality is bad . so capture the video in DVD complaint that's better for the quality of the video .

note : for converting any MPEG file to VCD or DVD I use Ulead DVD Factory .

best wishes and I hope you a happy editing (:

Is converting from digital camcorder the same method as capturing from VHS? Will a firewire card serve as a video capture card? -Reg

A Firewire Card will only work as a capture Card if you are Captureing from a DV Camcorder or a Hardware DV Encoder Like the Canopus ADVC-100....
The process of Putting the DV Camcorder footage on to DVD is the same if you were captureing Analogue VHS tapes....Cheers

PS: For Encodeing your Captured files to DVD Compliant Mpeg2 Never use a DVD authoring program to do the Encodeing to Mpeg2 because there encoders are not very good quality ,You should use a Standalone encoder Like the MainConcept Encoder or TMPGEnc....
