Stripped video in fullscreen mode?

when i run DivX or Xvid files in fullscreen on my pc, there are stripees across the screen. its like the video is torn, but when i play it in wondowed mode it works fine? i use windows media player, but it also happens for media player classic and BS player. any ideas? i think its my codecs, however i have reinstalled them and doesnt fix it.
