Hi there have just noticed the link to a site selling dble sided 9.4 gig DVD-R discs. Site says they are compatible with Pioneer A04.
Just wondering has anyone actually tried burning one, and how much success did they have. Is it now possible to 'backup' a dvd disc with all the extras to one of these dble sided discs? If so does anyone have access to a guide they can point me to. Am using a Pioneer A04. How compatible are these discs with standalones and PS2 (for movies). Are they available in the UK? Sorry for so many questions, but it could be an answer to many peoples prayers out there.

Thanks for yer help.
Maze

Not sure which link you are referring to, and since I am at work I dont have the company name in front of me, but I recently purchased 5 double sided discs from a copy for 50 bucks, and I just used one last night and had no problems playing it on my PS2. I have yet to try it on my stand alone player, but chances are if it worked on the PS2 my stand alone will play it fine. As soon as I find the company name and site, I will post that for you. FYI the disc I burned was under 4.7, haven't dived into anything bigger just yet.

Double-sided 4.7GB discs are the ones you are referring to -- 4.7GB per side. And therefor DVD-9 discs, with max 8.5GB per side, need to be split, exactly like you would split them to two 4.7GB discs, to two sides.

So, only thing what you gain from this is that instead of two discs, you have one disc that you need to flip over when the movie is in halfway (or need to access extras, depends on your style for splitting), but they CAN'T be used for 1:1 copies.

Practical use of two-sided discs :-) "Family version" and "When family is away version" ;-)
