I use shrink which automatically uses nero to burn within its own program. When it starts to burn it automatically burns at 8x . Where can I change my burning speeds so as I can burn slower or quicker

I don't believe Shrink has any speed options to use when autoburning with Nero. If changing the speed is important I'd just have Shrink rip to your hard drive then manually burn with Nero.

Oh yes there is I found it. After shrink analysis the disc it opens the screen (back up DVD). On this screen click burn settings and there it is. Just select burn speed from the drop down box and off you go. Heh Heh

Now that we know how to set the burn speed, is there any benefit from burning slower? Does it improve the quality of a back up?

Most definitely! With faster burns there is a tendency for more errors and even to the point of AV-desynch. If you are using good media 4X should be fine but on some of the cheaper media I tend to drop to 2X or even 1X. It's just like with burning CDs ... the faster you burn, the more errors and anomolies pop up.
