I taked this drive from my friend, installed it in my PC, pushed CD into it and... nothing. The drive does not recognise it! I used the same drive month ago and it worked without problems, but now...
What is the problem? The drive died or what? Please help me if you can.

P.S. I installed the lastest firmware a3210d_e.

It's possible the drive died though if you used it a month ago and it was fine, it's unlikely. I've still got a CRW3200 in another PC and it's still cranking right along.

It could be that an ASPI update would fix the problem. Here's a good link to the download and instructions:

My friend bought it 2.5 years ago. He burnd less then 200 CD's. And for regular disks he used his DVD.
I used this drive month ago and it worked (I burned about 100 disks). Now it does not recognise even regular CD's.
I tried what you say, but without result.
Any idea???

Try it in another PC if you can, help determine if it's the drive or the system.

Tried it... Still does not work. Windows (XP Profesional) install it without problems. Recognise it like Yamaha CRW3200E... I think my system is OK.

Thanks for your answers.

You might be able to revive it with a firmware flash but it sounds like its toast too.
