I just installed $40/month Covad DSL with 200Down/64Up about a month ago....I have WinMX set for Primary connection and for max of six down and six up at any give time......Yet all I ever see are transfers at very slow sppeds --- 0.3 to 1.0 Kbs rates......Is there some tweaking that I must do to make transfers much faster.

First of all, I reckon you were ripped off with that $40 a month for 200/64. I have 1024/256 for just 50 euro a month (same as dollar!)!

Anyway, WinMX is a file-sharing program so, if you are downloading from people with 56k modems the download speed will be obviously slow!!

Another problem is a firwall. Especially ZoneAlarm causes file sharing activity to collapse. Try to cut off anything that you think could tie up your net connection!!

Also, are you in a university because many campuses have been trying to kill the speed of file sharing apps!!!

Hope there's something there that helps!!

In California USA, all DSL's are about $60/mo for 1.5Mbs/Down and 128Kbs/Up.....Only recently has there been more competition and some price drops......In UK, reports are that here are DSL price wars taking place......So, your options are better than mine.....

I am a home user.....I run very few applications at any given time.......With or without ZoneAlarm engaged my down loads are slow, even when downloading from others with DSL or Cable.....I am consistently under 1.0Kbs whether up-loading or downloading.....Even when here are only two uploads or two downloads......

I once read that upload and download speeds are related to how many files one shares......Supposedly, some softwares allocate so much bandwith to each file ----and the more files shared --- the slower the transfers.......Don't know if this true with MinMX.

I wouldn't really know cause I don't use WinMX but i'd say it could be about the files you share!

Try using kazaa or something and see if you've the same problem with that!
