I have I Copy DVDs2, downloaded DVD43. When I insert movie, DVD43 checks it and a green smiley face appears BUT I Copy still states that the movie is protected. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
Thanks

Or if you want to stick with a free solution you can rip the disc with DVD Decrypter first and then back it up with another program. If your backup software requires that the original files be on a disc, you'll need to rip in ISO mode and mount the image it creates to a virtual drive. You can use Daemon Tools (also free) to mount images.

You can find Decrypter and Daemon Tools in Afterdawn's software area.

Hello ARTRAD. I am a fellow "I COPY DVDs2" with DVD43 user, and have been very successful. In my opinion it is a good program. Occasionally when I have a problem decrypting it helps if I start playing the disc first (for several minutes or so) then go about the copying process. Zero coasters in several hundred attempts.

Good Luck 2U

PS DVD Decrypter along with DVD Shrink is also very good but not nearly as easy to use as I COPY DVDs2 and DVD43!

Has anyone tried installing the new version of DVD43 recently?

I have read all the comments about it been a 30 day trial version which required payment. This has obviously put me off.

However, recently a couple of people have posted comments saying that the software is OK. Does anyone know what the situation is?

Is anyone from "Afterdawn" able to comment? If the software is a trial version the download page should be updated to indicate this.

Thanks for your help.

Another quick question.

In the old version 1.4 (which is definately free:), is it possible to disable it from starting automatically on booting up the PC? I would like to be able to have a manual start by clicking an icon.

Cheers

jheward,

I downloaded DVD43 2.0.0.71 from this site last week and it is fine, no pop up the next day wanting me to pay and the readme for it says it's free and not to pay for it. I've no idea what the problem is.

To disable DVD43 from your startup you can do the following:

Start > Run > type in "msconfig" > go to the "startup" tab and uncheck the entry for DVD43.

This will stop it from loading on boot and allow you to start it when you want :)

Thanks for that useful information Nephilim.

On the subject of it been free, Afterdawn have actually changed the DVD43 download page to state that it is NOT freeware anymore. Maybe you were lucky and got a good copy or maybe the 30 day trial hasn't kicked in yet?

Anyway, thanks once again for the help.

I had an email from Afterdawn confirming that the new version is no longer Freeware. Aparently the author sold the project to another company. However, V1.4 is still available and is definately free.

If anyone finds that V2 is indeed freeware I would be interested to know:)

How are you not able to get rid of ver.2? Out of curiosity I just uninstalled ver. 2 and was able to install 1.4.

Nephilim, the ad has changed and I know it did not state that when I downloaded it. I, like you, have had no pop-ups or anything to tell me this is a trial version. It now states that with patin couffin(1.4) it will remain free. I have been promoting this as freeware in threads and I hate to tell someone something and it not be the case. I have AnyDVD so it won't affect me, but a lot of people won't or don't want to shell out the 39.00 it costs. What should we say:
1-download 1.4 with patin couffin
2-download 2.0 and pay,
3-oh yeah, pay what? have you seen a price?

I went thru the uninstall and all but now everytime the computer boots up I receive the 30 day trial has expired message .I did also unselect it in msconfig. It seems that the new version may have a worm or something that is very undesirable ,at least that is what my experience with it is ,a very unpleasant one.

Current FREE version is 1.4
DVD43Free is the FREE version of DVD43 (version 1.4) that integrates into Windows and overrides CSS copy-protection mechanisms found on DVDs. Once it's installed, it runs in the background and you don't need to worry about it. You can use DVD43Free to remove CSS protection on many popular DVD copying programs.
BEWARE: There is another version of DVD43 in circulation (ver 2) that is NOT FREE and expires after 30 days - it stops working and points you to a website to buy a third party product.
the above is from the makers

lowkonxc, hit start, hit run, type msconfig, and uncheck it from the list. That should take care of it for you. Mine just ran out and since I have Anydvd, I took DVD43 out.
