Firefox 4 closer to release, reaches Beta 10

article published on 26 January, 2011

Mozilla has released Firefox 4 Beta 10 this week, within two weeks of Beta 9, suggesting a full RC should be available in the near future. Little has been added to the browser, but many bugs have been corrected, the browser should be more stable, and Mac OS X users will have better support for Flash video. Mozilla says it has received over one million "pieces of feedback" since launching ... [ read the full article ]

Status-4-Evar!!!
I'm aware of the addon that mimics a feature which has existed since the first days of gui http access. It just simply shouldn't be fucking needed. Sorry mozdevs but if I wanted to use chrome I would simply use chrome.. Chomezilla is not looking very inviting to me.

Why are you under the impression that version numbers mean anything at all in reality? I hope you're joking because if not you are a moron.

No, if it were Chrome there would be no extension to regain the old behavior. TBH, I'm not really upset over their making a previously mandatory component optional, as long as it remains optional.

They didn't make it optional, they removed it completely for no reason..
It also wasn't mandatory before as you could disable it from the view menu.
Just to make this clear the addon doesn't magically unlock a hidden function, it emulates it.
Status-4-Evar is simply an addon that has been made to look and function like the actual status bar.

There was a reason. The status bar takes up vertical screen real estate, which is less-than-optimal on the widescreen monitors that currently dominate the market. (Especially little ones like netbook/tablet screens.) Same thing with the menu bar, title bar and tab bar, which you'll notice have all been condensed into one in FF 4.0.

So... what's the problem? If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

Agreed!!!!!!!

Status bar is mandatory and should not need be acquired through an add-on. Gimme an Fing break.

On another note, Chrome is totally and emphatically needless and just sucks. It's ugly, lacks fun add-ons, doesn't ALWAYS work and frankly.............it's just browsing the internet here people. See your page, use a couple extras and close it down when you're done surfing. Chrome is for simpleton MOFOs trying to add complexity to their lives (unless of course you have found only IT works with a certain program).

All of these changes are still optional so your comparison is invalid. Without the use of addons I can separate them back to how they should be by changing a few simple settings.

So extensions aren't optional?

The whole appeal of Firefox is that, even if the core browser doesn't include something you want, you can easily add the desired feature using its cornucopia of extensions. Take the 30 seconds and install it! I did and I'm no worse for wear.

Honestly, in the time it takes to post a single complaint, you could've installed a status bar extension in FF 4.0 like a dozen times over.

Missing the point entirely still I see.

If missing the point means being satisfied with something that I can easily mold into exactly what I need, then I'm delighted to be missing the point.

Its still a memory hog..... and FF is still the only thing I use. LOL

I am only waiting on 1 add on to work with FF 4.0 and thats multirowtoolbar.

Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Lets renegotiate them.
