Just found this text file in someone's files:

"First, u need to goto Start, then run. Type in regedit in the box. Next, goto the
folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetservicesVxDMSTCP
Now, find the string DefaultRcvWindow . Now, edit the number to 64240 then
restart your computer. There you go. High speed cable modem now with out dloading a program.

373360

372300
--------------------"

Just wondering if this actually works... Also, the only thing in my VxD folder is JAVASUP, no MSTCP.

You are not modifying your cable modem with that. If you are looking for a program that will optimize your connection download tcpipoptimizer. This will get you started and is very easy to use.

Yes you can modify your actual modem. If your provider finds out that you are doing it they will take away your internet access forever and you could face legal action.

I really don?t think that will work at all. I don?t even thing you can make your download or upload speed go faster without getting a better service. How is it possible to just editing your system registry do that?

It won't really. You can only make little adjustments like adjusting tcp/ip window size to handle data flow better.

you can also, uncap your modem, which is illegal but affective! If you need to know how it would be done with a surfboard modem let me know, it will be on an information onle base however!

Dela, didnt cablemodem manufactures have a little powwow with Broadband ISPs a few years back after ppl started figuring out they could hack their cablemodem/dsl modem and tweak / remove their modem's cap which prompted new cablemodem/dsl modems to be made impossible to uncap via hacking their BIOS or whatever?

I know I cant uncap the modem I got from RCN. besides, for the added speed the risk of getting popped for it and having my Net service revoked and / or legal action taken against me isnt worth the effort.

The Receive window can be altered to optimize your connection. However, once it becomes too large, you will start dropping packets, which is a horrible thing. Go to dslreports.com and run a tweak test, and do some research on RWIN (TCP Receive Window.) Also, I do not recommend anyone uses an "internet optimizer" program. They are worthless. You should do the adjustments yourself as it will be much more accurate by using dslreports.com tweak test.

Perfectly legal, and recommended.

With Cable, DrTCP and the other TCP Optimizers dont work very much if you are lucky you might go up .1 MegaBit but most of the time it will just drop your connection
