Google loses some share to Bing

article published on 13 February, 2011

According to the latest figures from Experian Hitwise, Google lost some global search engine market share in January, with Bing picking up the slack. For the month, Google dropped to 67.95 percent share, down from 69.67 in December 2010. Bing rose to 12.81 percent from 10.6 the month prior. I don't think Google is perfect but I think microsoft screws with the numbers. If you ever go to MSN.Com and see what might be a cool article or slide show, you'll end up clicking on links that actually end up as a search with results leading to other sites instead of stories on their website. It's really annoying. I've read somewhere this greatly boosts their numbers. I bet they are now where near googles actual numbers.

Or try having MSN.ca as your homepage like I do and when I go to do a search in firefox's google search bar Bing hijacks my cursor while I am typing in my google search thus making me hit enter on Bing accidentally. intentional? I think so!

Hahahaha... There are, lies, big lies, and statistics. Truth be told at best bing is still no where as good as Google. I'm even a contractor working at Microsoft, strange this when i need to find information for a hotfix or other information ever regarding Microsoft products themselves, I find when i search with Google, most often the first 5 or 10 results has the answer to what i was looking for. In contrast using bing often i won't find what i needed, or if bing does return an article/search topic i was looking for it is most often 5 or 6 pages back in the results, pretty bad with the answer itself was even on a microsoft page itself...

Also if i analyze the results, from bing vs Google, bing direct you to companies either provides a service, will sell you the answer or someone that has signed up with bing for directed traffic... Google on the other hand points me to the information needed.

My opinion.... Google for the win! bing for #($*&# ?????

This is so true. It does that to me everytime, and i get so pissed off. I'm 100% positive that's how Bing is getting the numbers it is. Which is pathetic because they are still getting hits only because they are stealing them from Google.

Bing's already been busted by Google for just regurgitating their search results. Google put in some fake results, and sure enough, after a few weeks those same bogus results start coming up in Bing.

I don't see any reason to use Bing.

you should have said you are a contractor for Google... i switched from Google to Bing a year or so ago and couldnt be happier. I always find what I am looking for usually in the first 3 results. Also it works great for things in my area instead of google directing me to things in another state.... one of the first things i did when i got my android phone was made bing my home page.... if you dont like bing.. dont use it.. if you dont like google dont use it.

you mean google.. it would list it's own ass at the top with an address and phone numbers and a map to the left of it that you can click on and get directions and provides links underneath with useful info.......

google fanboys are a trip.... even the people working at google are not up on google like that..sure they love the company that they work for put the product is no longer the best.. if you were comparing it to yahoo or something sure... but Bing is a different beast.. that is why the numbers for bing keep climbing...

I used mainly Bing becasue I like their good-looking home page; the home page is also a conveneint place to start map, etc.

Bing has too many advertisement, so does google. I just choose the lesser of two evil.

As far as search results, they are about equal. I use Goolgel Schalar which Bing does not have. But for everyday use, Bing is OK.

Both serch engine return a lot of ad and garbage, I just have to cut through them.

To me they are no different, but Bing is better looking.
