Iger: DVD not dead yet

Bob Iger, Disney CEO, has said this week that the DVD market is not healthy, but also "not dead yet."
Speaking to Charlie Rose, the CEO explained Disney is looking at all distribution channels but still believes in physical media.

I think the Bob Iger is being Goofy with the numbers, it is Disney after all :) I would think DVD sales are down because many are switching to:
1.) Netflix, Hulu or other streaming media.
2.) People see Blu-ray around the corner so why buy an 8-track or cassette, oops i mean a dead technology :)
3.) People figure if they saw something once, why buy a copy of it, want to watch it again, rent or stream it as appropriate...

I guess that ivory tower is too high to see how bad the economy really is and oh yeah as mentioned before he forgot to blame piracy.

DVD still has about 5 years left in it then thigns should shift much more to web/blu ray.
Copyright infringement is nothing more than civil disobedience to a bad set of laws. Lets renegotiate them.

I won't buy or rent DVD's unless that is all I can get so for me DVD's are dead for the most part. But I know people that STILL use VHS, it doesn't make sense to me I couldn't watch a poor quality VHS.
DVD?s will be around for a good decade I would bet even though they may not be #1 in rentals or retail, in my opinion.
I saw the interview on Charley Rose with Bob Iger and I wouldn't put any weight on anything this idiot says. I'm always surprised at how people like him get to prominent positions but it just goes to show you that Sh^t does float.

I bet they have a much better handle on piracy than we do. The media has spent vast sums of money to mercenaries who monitor and combat piracy. Piracy is on the wain not that it is gone by any stretch of the imagination. It is probably still bigger than it was 5 yrs ago. They are hammering torrents making it painful to download for FREE. Pirates need to spend small amounts of money to avoid creations of the mercenaries by using newsgroups or proxies. Persons don't pirate so much if they have to pay even a pittance. I bet that was a chilling concept. Persons are not willing to pay 1 cent on the dollar for their so valuable movies.
I you think I am an empty barrel, check the P2P forum. There is almost no activity there except for an occasional ignorant newbie who had been downloading unmolested for a while till the swarm of nasties hits.
People are just not buying and they know it.

Still looking at piracy/file sharing its still a tiny proportion of revenue and even legal distribution.
People are still buying just not 220% like they use too.

Can't recall if it was movie piracy or game anyway the US Congress commissioned the FBI to investigate the claims made by whoever at the end of months long investigation they came up with a figure of 0,that's right the money quoted as being lost Y.O.Y was plucked out of thin bloody air their was no evidence to support the claims made by i'm sure it was the movie studios even the studios own office paper work was looked at & there was nothing,can't say i'm suprised i always wondered how it would be possible to get even a decent figure of the losses made what better way than to make it up who's going to investigate it hehehe they just got bit on the ass

DVD has a few years left since the economy is not stable enough for many consumers to afford HDTVs/computers with Blu-ray players. When mostly all classic movies eventually get ported to Blu-ray and new releases no longer support DVD, then it's like the death of VHS all over again.

When all movies end up on bluray, that's when I stop buying movies because I do not purchase anything connected to sony.

You really don't know what you are talking about do you?
Sony releases movies in DVD & Blu-Ray but they are only one of many distributors or rights owners of said movies. Blu-Ray is not unique to Sony, not even close!

I think most of us hate Sony however that doesn't mean I won't buy a product from them if it is good i.e., Their TV's are very good! However I typically buy Samsung as they tend to be as good or better for a little less.
If I wouldn't buy from a company because it was shaty then I really wouldn't have many places to buy from.
I like the idea of him sitting in the dark, he wouldn't be able to go to Fort Meyers either than. That was funny Mez...

Yes, we think a good bit alike. I draw a distiction between the company and the product. I can hate the company but like the product.
I really hate Apple but I have an ipod though it was vastly over priced and I didn't buy it. I own their stock. They are money making SOBs knowing how to extract money from the public. I even admire them in a way, since they are very competent in a world of incompetence. I will never use itunes the app or the store. That is where their lust for money interfears with a good product. I would never buy a Mac either. If I ever come up with the money I might buy an iphone.

Some consumers may hate Sony, but that does not make them an inferior manufacturer. Take, for example, the fact that the PS3 is like a gazillion times more reliable than the XBOX 360 and does NOT have a 55% risk of system failure.
