Sony PlayStation CEO Jack Tretton was interviewed this week by Fortune and he made some interesting comments including calling Nintendo's handhelds "babysitting tools" and stating that Sony is on the verge of having its best year, ever.
Despite losing as much as $300 per PS3 console sold at launch in 2006, Tretton says Sony is set to have its "best year ever" thanks to the expensive tech ... [ read the full article ]

The arrogance of Sony just pisses me off.
First, XBox games, controller and console are just better. The hardware on PS3 might be more advanced and "better" but who F'ing cares when the PS4 comes out and causes PS3 to become obsolete when in fact the PS3 was designed for the long haul and future this and future that........blah blah blah.
Sony may "slightly" behind the sales of XBox but only because of the simple fact that too many losers with too much time on their hands and money burning an F'ing hole in their pockets buy BOTH consoles for GOD only knows what reason?!?!?!?!?!?!
Sony needs to come down to reality and get off their F'ing high chair.

Even if they are babsitting tools that even more of a reason to get them. My lil nephew has one and once thats in his hands we dont have to worry about any disturbances when we go out or any nagging. Plus there are alot of educational games on there. So I think its a great gaming system even if I will never buy one for myself. @lissenup3 calm down dude its not that serious...

Quote: Our view of the 'Game Boy experience' is that it's a great babysitting tool, something young kids do on airplanes, but no self-respecting twenty-something is going to be sitting on an airplane with one of those. He's too old for that.
Any self-respecting twenty-something isn't going to be playing games. A normal twenty-something might though. Also, Nintendo's 'babysitting tools' sell better than Sueny's stuff because CHILDREN play games.

Wither or not it's a babysitting tool, it's making bank for Nintendo; so at the end of the day they'll be laughing.

I don't think Jack Tretton is denying the fact Nintendo is making bank or the fact that the DS is a huge success for Nintendo. Of course the DS outsells the PSP. My son has a DS and he takes it with him in the car all the time. Do I play it? NO! In my opinion it is a great system for kids. That should come as no surprise since that is the market it's made for. Sony I believe is marketing to a different crowd. Better specs, higher price, but that is expected.

I switched from xbox to PS3 when I was faced with replacing my fourth console. The next time Microsoft releases a console I hope they take the time to build it right.

Umm, did he just insult potential customers? I'm twenty plus years an would not mind having a DS or PSP anywhere in public, yet I respect myself.

I wouldn't want a DS or a 3DS...and it isn't even the hardware; it is the selection of games...they are designed for kids. Sure, some are written so almost anyone can get some enjoyment from them, but they are so bland because of this that they hold no appeal for me...and they are usually the 50th game in a series that stopped being fun after the third one...so that does not help either.
That said, there is really only one PSP game that I considered buying a PSP for...if it were not for the fact that the PSP is made by Sony, I would have one right now, and I would probably regret buying it for just one game.
BTW...the 3DS is certainly not just for babysitting; it is also useful for detecting certain vision disorders in small children. It is not often that a commercial video game can be used as a medical tool without any modifications.

Jack seems to like hearing the sound of his own voice. Sony is dead to me. Only Sony hardware that can be stripped and raped is allowed in my house. Nintendo is much more relevant to me. My kids love their DS's. My Wii allows me to get onto Netflix, even thought I choose not to update the console. As far as I know, Nintendo doesn't attack their customers.

Well, that depends on how you look at it. They also purposely LIED to consumers the first few years the Wii was available that there were shortages of them while they had warehouses packed, just to artificially drive up demand and hype.

You know you can buy a product without supporting the manufacturer KB. Buy a used PS and the game as well. Then your money does not go to the maker nor the developer of the game you sooo want to play.

Hahaha nice I have grown tired of playing games that involve a lot of thinking though like adventure games. I don't plan on buying the 3DS but maybe the NGP.

If I buy a used PSP, that is one less used PSP for someone else, and one more new PSP that someone will buy somewhere. Plus, the game is made by Sony as well...and the used market works the same for the games (or at least for popular games). IDK...I might buy a few dead PSPs for cheap and see if I can make one working unit from them; that wouldn't help sony profits any...

It's an excellent gaming machine. I have 2. But I took them offline and installed custom firmware.
They didn't get attacked. Modifying a machine is not "attacking." The solution is easy. Ban idiots who try to game on the PSN with custom firmware. I can live without online gaming, but access to the store, where I spent at least a couple thousand dollars over the past 3 years is them putting a choke hold on my freedom to do what I want with my machine. Assuming that I am automatically a pirate if I have cfw and spying on my machine is invasion of privacy. Attaching Netflix to the PSN, so that I can't use it unless I have their latest ofw is an outrage. I can go on an on.
They lie to their customers (OtherOS), they lie to the courts (geohot - read the case history for yourself). They abuse the legal system to get their way. They are raiding developers homes and having their equipment seized - the ones that are strictly working on bringing Linux back to the PS3.

I hear ya. But it does depend on how you look at it, and it probably happens with a lot of manufacturers a lot more than we know. To me, that's harmless compared to how Sony treats it's customers who have invested money in their system.

Sorry to quote such a big post but it's QFT.
Looking at what Tretton is saying makes me want to rip his testicles off, throw them into a fire before his eyes and then make him swallow a pint of ammonia.
Nintendo might be the lesser corporation that doesn't do as well but as I recall , like emugamer said, Nintendo don't go completely commando on people who choose to do what they want to their own consoles. Tretton also carts on about the PS3 being able to sustain for 10 years while Nintendo can't do that because it's hardware is basically 3 years in the past and sh*t (Both his words and mine, but the 3DS doesn't fit this IMO, because it is pretty damn cool :) ). OK, but let's have a look at Pokemon, a game franchise which has been going strong since 1996. How many franchises have you got like that Sony?

LOL @ lissenup3.
You totally made no sense.
The PS3's technical specs are much better, The PS3's processor is better, and the graphics card is slightly faster, that's fact.
The failure rate (1%) is significantly lower than the 360 (33%)fact.
Online gaming is free, fact.
Can put any HDD you want in it not one that is overpriced by Microsoft.
And you can have all that for the same price as a 360. Everything else you listed as what makes the 360 better (i.e. controller, games, console) are all just your personal opinion not a fact. And really how can you say a console with a 33% failure rate and a dated standard DVD drive is better than one with a 1% failure rate and HD Blu-Ray drive?
I think you need to come down to reality and get off your 360 fanboy high chair. You're rant was totally pointless.

I can't agree with that. I paid for a system with online gaming and OtherOS support...both on ONE system. Blocking me from going online just because I have a CFW that allows me to keep using the OtherOS feature is BS.
I realize that there are cheaters online, and that some of them use CFW-only cheats (most just use glitches that the devs don't bother to patch, and they do so from OFW 3.60). However, that is no justification to block CFW users. The same kinds of cheats are possible with PC games because PCs are essentially jailbroken from the factory...but the industry has adapted itself to fighting the cheaters...not simply blocking all PCs because cheating is theoretically possible.

And yet you hold Sony accountable for what GeoHot is responsible for...that just doesn't make sense to me. Sorry. GeoHot is the one that I blame for the removal/loss of my OtherOS with YDL & ZeroGame.

About 80% of PS3 Games run at the Full Resolution of 720p. Every Single Game on the X-Box 360 runs a 1080p. There are only a few games for the PS3 that run at 1080p. Is is due to the Lazyness of the Developers? or is it due to the Limitations of the PS3 despite having 50 GB worth of Blu-Ray Storage compared to 8 GB of DVD Storage for X-Box 360? I really want to know. Until Sony address why there is no 1080p for every PS3 Game, I don't want them claiming their system is the best.

You are misinformed. The 360 UPSCALES it's games to 1080p. BIG difference between upscaled and native resolution. There are not that many NATIVE 1080p titles on the 360 at all. Please read through the links below and do some research (Ctrl F search 1920x1080) before spreading/saying more misinformation ~
360 Native 1080p = 5
PS3 Native 1080p = 31
There might be a small handful of titles not added/updated (to both sides) but it wouldn't change the outcome to be any different...thus the point is the same.
