Windows Vista will not get Internet Explorer 10

Microsoft has confirmed today that the upcoming Internet Explorer 10 will not run on any operating system except for Windows 7.
Even as a developer preview, the browser will not run on XP or Vista.
The move is one step past Microsoft's drop of XP support for Internet Explorer 9, which was just released last month.

Good for Microsoft!
We sure can't count on people and companies to shed their cheap-assed, antiquated nature and stay relatively current because so many want to stick with the outdated and inferior XP so I'm all for strong arming into making people do the "right and sensible thing".

Glad I forked over $400 for 5 years of support. Exactly how does 7 improve upon Vista that would somehow limit the web browsing experience? Yea, 7 is more stable and has less driver problems but, I don't buy it. Does Microsoft really have to wonder why Firefox, Opera, and Chrome is stealing "their" browser's market share?

I think that the right and sensible thing for most people will be to keep the OS that they've already paid for and switch to another browser.

I totally agree!!!!!!!!! IE 9 still produces a shit load of pop-ups when I'm porn surfing. FF doesn't.
Firefox = porn friendly
IE 9 = NOT porn friendly and will only f*ck YOU.

seems stupid for them to do this, M$ is just asking to lose market share....
hopefully that would force the IE users to ditch the browser and get a better browser such as chrome or FF.

First off Vista does not suck I have it on all my systems and all those I build since its now cheaper than 7, driver support is not a problem when u buy all new modern parts everything works with Vista now and did when it debuted as long as u weren't trying to install it on a system from 2004 or old printers.
IE 9 is great I like it never really took to Firefox but I do install it as an alternative for my customers. Chrome crashes alot, in my testing.
I don't understand IE 10 not being supported on Vista but Microsofts bottom line is always what they play to buy the new software. I had already planned to skip Windows 7 as its basically Vista stripped of its best features. I am happily waiting for Windows 8 or whatever they will call it when it comes out.

if your still using Internet Explorer, you deserve all the nasties your going to get from the net.
my guess is DirectX 12 will no longer be supported in W7. which is a good and a bad thing.
the good thing is Game makes wont use it because its annexing potential customers, the bad thing is game makes wont use one of the most powerful API ever written,because they would be annexing potential customers.

I was an early adopter of Vista b/c I was in the market for a new tablet pc when it was just launched. I had to do a clean install b/c they didn't work with manufacturers close enough (or the manufacturers were to slow at updating their 3rd party bloatware). However, once I did the "clean" install I felt it was a very capable OS and I actually enjoyed it. That being said I was glad I had access to a copy of Win 7 through my college b/c I feel it is faster at booting, sleeping, returning from sleep and all sorts of general things. I was definitely pissed that I was not given the opportunity to at least get Win 7 at an extreme discount due to the fact that I had "JUST" paid for Vista.
But Wow, what is MS doing to Vista owners? If I was still using Vista I would be extremely upset. It's not the point that I even would consider using IE, it's just that MS is snubbing their nose at the very people that support them (early adopters are usually loyal customers). As stated before, what is so drastically different from Vista and Win 7 that justifies not building IE to support Vista?

Just curious, what features are you talking about? The only one I can remember (not saying there are not more) is the moving desktop background (which was actually very cool, just a little too much for my integrated graphics).

Microsoft has quite a racket. People paid for a Windows XP license, upgraded and paid for a Windows Vista license, and now they are expected to upgrade again and pay another licensing fee. Once they remove XP and Vista they still have a license but will never use it again unless they have another computer to install it on. Then if they were OEM versions you aren't even supposed to do that.
What a racket!

Um, Windows 7 cost me £45 for a complete retail version, I upgraded to Ultimate for another £16.
I have completely enjoyed having XP, I have never had a serious issue with it.
My Mrs loves her laptop with Vista Home basic on it and she never has had any serious issues on that.
Windows 7 is similarly not giving me a single problem.
It's extremely easy to use, works with 99.99% of anything I point at it and with a decent anti-virus and firewall I have never had a problem with net nasties.
Maybe some people might care to think about the types of sites they visit rather than blame Microsoft.
Even Firefox and Opera and Macs have sufffered attacks - although with their relatively small minority share of the market they aren't as profitable for the criminal types to try to attack.
Why people seem to expect an OS system to last forever is beyond me, of course they produce new products, some catch on others don't.
XP has been an exception, not the norm.
Having said that this idea some seem to believe that Microsoft has lost such huge amounts of market share that they are no longer market leasder (by some margin) in both OS and internet browsers is utterly laughable.
Even Vista with 'only' around a 19% share of the market has numbers any other OS producer would kill for in todays market.

I'm actually going to side with MS on this one, if it gives them a chance at actually make a browser that's good for more then downloading an alternative, that is. Because at the end of the day who actually uses IE? Businesses and people like my parents. Now businesses are unlikely to bother updating IE (look at IE6) and are even less likely to be running Vista in the first place. As for my parents, I updated their laptop to IE9 and it changed nothing to them except nothing's 'where it should be'.

Businesses update IE...as well as the many people who actually need ActiveX functionality. While it is a huge security risk, it is also the only way to do various things that would generally be considered a security violation if you were not specifically wanting that action to happen...well, the only way other than HTML5...and switching to HTML5 would be too expensive considering the only advantage would be a nicer browser.
Personally, I still use IE almost every day...I surf with FireFox, I work with IE.
