Hi:
I am new and I did not know how to post my question for everyone. I am having a small problem with my Philips
IDE CD-RW using Win2000 Os. Everything was working but onse I remove the CD burner and put it back with the same setting being a slave and my CD-ROM being the Master. Then, I reinstall Creative Easy CD creator 4.1.
Everything worked fine, howere, evry time I restart my computer, the CD burner doen't get detected. I have to go to myComputer->manage->DeviceManager right click on CD/CD-RW and scan for hardware changes. This will make it to work again.

I did go to Microsoft help and follow help to Code39:

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetClass{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-0 8002BE10318}] Click on file then export save key as savedkey.reg then remove upperfilters if you have it and lowerfilters type is REG_MSV Then go to device manager remove the hardware ie cdrom drive, then click on action and then scan for new hardware/hardware changes and then it finds it and sorts it out"

This did not help. I am sure my problem has to do with Easy CD creator software. It also made my computer to not restart on itself. It gave me a blank window with a dash!

Any idea, I am spending three weeks on this and have done many search. Every search is pointing to Code39.

I also have replace my CD burner with another CD rom and still acting the same. Howerev, if I make it the only CD-ROM or CD Burnr, it works fine. Lokks like computer only detect one CD-ROm at a time.

I also removed my ZIP drive and made the CD-RW and CD-ROM both master (setting are correct). Again, after bootup I had to scan in order to find the CD-RW!

thanks,
ARN

Do you have the jumpers on the back of the drive set correctly for the drive's position on the IDE cable?

The drive on the very end of the cable should have the jumper set to Master and the drive in the middle of the cable should have the jumper set to Slave.

yes,
teh setting is the same as it was when was working correctly. The burner is a slave and the Cd-ROM is a master. I even made both master but only one was detected. Then, I tryed with two CD-ROM as master, but same result.

If you've got burner problems, what you might need to do is to uninstall the drive from Windows, reboot and let Windows automatically reinstall the device for you. To do so, (1) Control Panel, (2) System, (3) Hardware, (4) Device Manager, (5) Expand the DVD/CD-ROM Drives entry, right click on thr troublesome drive and uninstall it. Now simply reboot and let Windows try and repair itself.

Praetor, I have removed the Easy CD creator and any related CD burner software and reboot. The problem is during the reboot the OS is not detecting the burner or any 2nd CD storge device. When I go to device manger and scan, it finds my Cd buirner and everything start working fine. I can even install my software and start burning CDs. However, when I shut down my computer or restart, the setting does not get saved (i think). Then, after reboot, I have to go and scan for the burner again.

Thanks,

Hmmm .... this is odd ... might it be a failing CMOS battery? Or you have somehow disabled the Shell Hardware Detection service? Or the Windows Management Instrumentation service? Or the Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extension service?

:)
