Hi,

Can any body tell me all the steps to download .ra or .ram stream audio files from internet. I am newbie on internet and computer. I am trying to download these interviews from internet site.

http://www.hazaragiradio.com/hazaragi-songs/songs/free-songs/interview.asp

I'm using StreamBox VCR 1 beta 31 - SMFfix+.

I have no idea of how to use this software to download these files. As this software is too complicate for me. So I need all the steps to download this file.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It seems to me that I already answered this same question a week ago.

I guess I could give a more complete answer.

The site you are interested in uses RAM redirectors. RAM Redirectors can be used in a recorder like StreamBox VCR but they can sometimes cause problems. Sometimes after the redirection and StreamBox VCR finds the Stream URL, it will sometimes try to download the stream using the wrong protocol. Because of that reason it is usually best to find the stream URL and use it directly.

Some methods.

1
View Link Source Internet Explorer add-on.
http://p084.ezboard.com/fstreemeboxvcrfrm7.showMessage?topicID=20.topic
This add on to Internet Explorer will allow you to right click on a link like the RAM redirectors on that site and will show you the stream URL to use.

2
view-source: - Examples of how to use to find stream URL.
http://p084.ezboard.com/fstreemeboxvcrfrm7.showMessage?topicID=78.topic
This method will also allow you to get the Stream URL from the RAM redirector links on this site.

Example of view-source:

Redirector.
http://www.hazaragiradio.com/hazaragi-songs/songs/free-songs/interview/abdullah_changezi.ram

view-source:redirector
view-source:http://www.hazaragiradio.com/hazaragi-songs/songs/free-songs/interview/abdullah_changezi.ram

Source code shows stream URL to use.
http://www.hazaragiradio.com/hazaragi-songs/songs/free-songs/interview/abdullah_changezi.rm

3
URL Snooping will also find the Stream URL to use. Most people use Project URL Snooper.
URL Snooper & Packet Sniffer software list.

Or you can use the RAM redirector directly in StreamBox VCR if you understand what you are doing.
When you use the RAM redirectors from this site, when it downloads, it will redirect to the stream URL but will try to download with the wrong Protocol. Just right click on the download and select Properties and change the Protocol to Auto or HTTP.

Ok so that's how to get the link. for example:

mms://wm.microsoft.com/ms/msnse/0407/23062/MSR/Channel9_Videos_DemoOfMediaBrowser_MBR_300k_110k_56k.wmv

okay... but no matter how these are entered into the the StreamBox VCR Suit 2 and no matter how it's started it cannot find the file.

Now the next question is why in the heck does the software say that it's "cracked" when you first start it up? Is this some bit of piracy or somethnig?

StreamBox VCR can download this if you set the protocol to MMS(HTTP) but because of the video codec used it will not record the video.

StreamBox VCR is not really recommended for Windows Media recording anymore because there are newer and better recorders for these streams. I think that GetASFStream is about the best Windows Media recorder currently, but there are many others as well. Check the list for recommended and highly recommended recorders.

StreamBox VCR originally connected to the software provider StreamBox to register and update the software. StreamBox no longer supports this software and this registration and updating function has been disabled to allow it's continued use.

Thanks for the Prompy reply!

Actually I'm trying to record a live stream :D But I
reckon it's the same so that was my test before the show
(Siggraph 2004) started. This is the scream I'm wanting:

I have installed the Japanese utility "GetASFStream"
and will give that a try, Thanks!

I hope GetASFStream has an English GUI ;)

Just to follow up!

Yup GetASFStream worked great! The live stream was very flaky this year but GetASFStream did it's best in spite of all.

Surely appreciate the tip!

Thanks!!!

I gotta hand it to getasfstream for being a great one. The only problem is the lack of translation from Japanese to English. I tried to rip a stream, and it gave me an error saying "Please choose asf". The stream was in asf format, i believe. I tried online translators, and webpage translators from Japanese to English, but they didn't do a good job. I still got many Japanese letters in the translation. doh!

Try the translaters at Excite or AltaVista... Much better. Still you're going to have to guess at some of the meanings. I live in Japan so it's no trouble for me to read that directly! I had more trouble figuring out his english in the options pannel tabs. :P

Even still just playing with the settings and looking at the results (or errors in your case) should be enough to give you a good idea of what each does.

you might be able to hit up a translation forum or news group and get that translated for you. If you do please notify the Author (and us) so it can be included with future releases. :)

You can use any screen capture tool to record webcam video (such as HyperCam).

[23:47] <+cjdawg> can I use DeCSS for web design then?
