Newer, more advanced leaked build of Windows 8 now available

article published on 26 April, 2011

Two weeks after the useless Windows 8 M1 build was leaked to torrent and warez sites, a newer version (M2) is now available for download. The build is Windows 8 Milestone 2 (M2) Build 6.2.7955.0.110228-1930. That number implies the build is from February 28th and is "time-bombed to expire in July," says Soft. This latest build, whilst still hiding some new features, adds a Webcam, ... [ read the full article ]

These builds have been leaking out for like 10 years now. Nothing new under the sun. Personally never seen the point of being a "beta tester" though, but maybe just for curiosity purposes some people like to run and test these. It's easier nowadays too with virtual machines. Maybe they'll finally get that new file system done.

Is this gonna be another Microsoft F up similar to the F'ed up F up that MS committed with Windows ME?

Microsoft thinks that by pushing out OS after OS that they have their shit together but clearly not the case. Rather than spacing out release like OSX does, they are readying another Windows release just a year after 7.

Yet again........decision makers and the "powers that be" all in the wrong position of authority.

@Bob

I know what you mean concerning cosmetics etc. But the feel? I believe Win7 comes across to the consumer as more than an '"oh shit" patch for Vista' otherwise it would be treated with more circumspection.

Look, I'm not picking a fight here Bob, I thought what you wrote was sensible. Just that last sentence... something is not right with it. I guess it comes across as a bit dismissive.

I had to work on someone's laptop the other day. I was thinking, "Crikey, there must be a ton of malware on this poot!". My efforts did not not improve it much. "What's wrong", I thought, "it's not a bad lappy". Then, "doh!". I realised it was running Vista. Heh, egg-faced.

I can't see Win8 being taken on except on new machines. It might have DX12 which might be radical except it seems hard enough to get game developers to write for DX10 let alone DX11 (hopefully that will change now). As tablets go Android seems to be winning that market with the manufacturers.

Perhaps Win8 will be truly revolutionary... I'm typing this on a old Atom CPU 1000H EeePC with 2gb RAM and an SSD. Its OS is Win7 x32 ultimate~ 99.9% bells and whistles turned on. It runs mostly like cream. Big deal that it takes up 11gb. So what could we expect from Win8?

Its a lot easier being righteous than right.

Methinks you're correct. If not, I find it plausible that Microsoft may intentionally "leaking" these early-stage and mid-stage developments into the public arena --- perhaps, as a marketing strategy to collect public opinion.

Actually, I quite like it in Autodesk Inventor. Can't really see it in a OS... maybe it would work with a tablet.
