Android is now most wanted smartphone OS in U.S.

article published on 27 April, 2011

Android is now most wanted smartphone OS in U.S., says Nielsen. In the period of July to September 2010, consumers looking for a new smartphone overwhelmingly wanted iOS, with 33 percent saying they would get an iPhone. 26 percent wanted an Android and 13 percent wanted a BlackBerry. Not with the choke hold Apple has on its loyal customers. Nothing against Apple, but because ios is not on a 100 different phones, it is now losing out on market share. I'm not advocating that it should be, however, but they should have taken a cue and learned to dazzle its loyal customers like Google has rather than to follow in the footsteps of Microsoft.

Let's look at the pie chart one more time, shall we.

"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

A while ago, those numbers said that those same users wanted Apple; I guess they all bought apples and now they realize that they really wanted android.

I have always thought the Apple Retina screen was great and their animations were slick, still I suppose the proof of the pudding etc.

Its a lot easier being righteous than right.

I think that is part of the reason it is so popular. Some people may not like the overall design of the iphone. Since Android os comes on different phones, you have a better selection and are not stuck with just one product.

I went Droid with the Galaxy S Vibrant. I don't feel I went wrong at all. To each their own in the end anyways.

Look at the Symbian OS - a paltry 2% market share. How the mighty fall!

I must admit to a certain childish smirk at "Blackberry RIM".

To be fair to RIM, most of their customers are not shopping for new phones because their old RIM phones still do all the business-only things that they need, and because if they do want more, they are looking at the PlayBook, not at phones. This survey is only of people buying new phones...not of people who are content with their old phones.
