Film Clips for Windows Media Player

Will Smartripper be all I need to do the following in order to upload short film clips to a passworded interface I use for teaching online History courses?

1. Make a copy from a DVD source of the clip I want to use.

2. Convert it for use by Windows Media Player.

I have used DVDXCopy which will not do what I need for this purpose.
