you say you have a samsung dvd/cd-rw combo drive make sure that it is a dvd burner not just a reader you may be able to rip it and not burn it.on free space you need to have depending on the movie all the way up to 9 gigs and more the ram the better i have done it with 128mb.i hade a friend that had a dvd player couldn't rip a thing(some generic piece) bought a tdk never had a problem since then.We never figured it out. for some reason you have a read error i know sometimes i have to use my burner to rip because my player gives me read error. Is this on all movies? good luck

titansboy,
You do know you will not be able to burn dvd's. You have a dvd-rom/cd burner combo.

If it's only this one DVD then I guess it is scratched or damaged in that particular spot. Symptoms would be:
-can rip almost any other dvd
-rip always grinds to a halt in same location, on bad dvd
If this is the first time you have encountered this, then you're not doing a lot of ripping :)
It happens, it's the disc. Maybe a good polishing with scratch-compound could get it through SmartRipper OK.

Well, to start fresh with new software here's what I suggest. You need two things (besides a DVD burner). Try the Intervideo DVDCopy Platinum (you can type this in a search engine and get the main page to get the demo which last about 15 days). You also need a region & css free program which gets rid of the css (type in dvd region+css free - you are looking for version 5.02 - this is also a demo version that last 30 days) The region free loads up automatically when you open Intervideo. Now you can backup your dvds. If these work for you, you can buy the license code to make it work beyond the demo time period. I hope it helps and works for you.

I had this same problem I posted the I want a step by step guide in this same thread, but with some help I finally did it I used DVD2SVCD and used TMPGEnc as my encoder because they work together, you go to the encoder tab and select your encoder and then go to conversion and click the cd symbol and click go then select rip and convert, it will ask you to select a folder to send it to so choose one that is empty or does not have video files in it. Then it will begin and although it seems like its not doing anything it is but this will take up to 12 hours, once it is finished well I used Alcohol 120 and used image burner and selected the cue files that were created by DVD2SVCD and there should be at least 2 and you burn them one at a time there could be more than 2 and this is how many disc you will need each cue will be burned to a seperate disc using cdrw but it worked after I tried all the products you have tried this one finally worked so maybe you could give that a go.
