Verizon releasing 4G-capable Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets on Thursday

article published on 28 July, 2011

Verizon says it will release the much-anticipated LTE-enabled Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet on Thursday for $529 (16GB) or $629 (32GB). Data plans for tablets on Verizon start at $30 for 2GB with 2-year contract. Chances are, however, that you will need the more expensive plans if you are an active user, $50 for 5GB or $80 for 10GB. What is the point of a 4G tablet with less data allowance than an old 3G cell phone?

But what about the tablet itself? Maybe it's the real deal. I never understood 7" tablets. The screen size was the weakest part of the previous Galaxy Tab specs. This one, on the other hand, can become an iPad killer (at last).

Screen size is a matter of personal preference and needs. Personally, if there was an Android device about the same size as the RIM PlayBook, I would want it...assuming it had cell capabilities and could replace my phone.

Yes, you are right, it's a matter of personal taste and needs. I, for instance, don't want a tablet to replace my phone; I use mine for reading mags, eBooks, comic books, e-mail, websites and, of course, Android development, which was the actual excuse for getting one myself, hehe. :)

For reading comic books the 10.1" display is just great. You can read at full-screen with no need of zooming in or out, and it weighs less than any trade paperback despite of having tons of issues in storage. :)

(Angry Birds is kinda cool at that size, too).

Is it at all feasible to use this for your phone?

Aloha!
