AVI's make my computer freeze after i play them

Everytime i play an .AVI file, when the file is done playing, my computer freezes and the screen turns black and there are little green bars that come up on the top of the screen. Is there anyway i can stop this from happening? Thanks.

try a program gspot to see what type of avi u have, codec.. etc..
