Logitech admits Google TV is epic failure, drops price of Revue to $99

article published on 1 August, 2011

Google TV is a failure. Logitech, makers of the Google TV-based "Revue" set-top box, lost $30 million in the Q1, following a disastrous $34 million loss thanks to the Revue and its accessories based on the device. The Revue debuted last October for $250 and was instantly met with criticism for the price and the fact that Google TV was buggy. Additionally, the media companies put a ... [ read the full article ]

Everybody just piggy backs off of Apple. Try to invent something new and worth having and there won't be an issue with sales. Apple is the only company with innovation. I'm willing to admit that even though I don't really care for their products because they are over priced and not really powerhouses as far as Ram, and Graphics cards are concerned.

True while googletv could have been big thing if they made contracts with media companies like apple did with itunes, it might had been successful. At least for me it doesn't sound very interesting to watch youtube on televison. If they instead made iptv & streaming service, with good content bought from media companies with monthly billing or commercials & ads then i might be interested. Unfortunately what i hear is that media companies are just so greedy that it really isn't good business. but apple managed to do that with music industry so why wouldn't google pull that off with media companies?

Actual apple hardware isn't really that innovative. Tablets were introduced WAY before apple introduced them. No one cared about them then, when apple released them "followers" were pissing on them selfs on how innovative apple was (just one example). iphone (the actual phone) wasn't that innovative (touch screen phones already existed) but the gui was way ahead of mainstream brands. Only hardware that i could count as innovative was mac book air. Yes it is basically "normal" pc hardware like most their laptops and desktops with intel cpu, but the way how they made it that thin was very impressive.

Apple doesn't innovate anything. They copy other lesser known tech and then throw a billion dollar advertising campaign behind it. Apple is more of a venture capitalist than a tech company.

They never had a chance at $250...you can get an xbox 360 does does the same things for the same price. If it had launched at $100, it still would have been a tough sell (the main competition being $100, smaller, and with lots of exclusivity deals), but at $250 it required hypnosis to get someone to buy one.

If these boxes hit $25 I will probably buy one...that is about all that they are worth.
