AntiSec releases tons of police data

article published on 8 August, 2011

In retribution for police arresting alleged Anonymous and LulzSec members, the hacktivist group AntiSec has released 10GB worth of data including private emails and info sent by confidential informants. The hacktivists say they stole the info during attacks on 70 small-town law enforcement agencies. AntiSec released the database in an effort to "embarrass, discredit and incriminate ... [ read the full article ]

Have to see what happens now.

Currently I don't see antisec etc doing much more for long.

All the current people are going to be locked away for sure even if they haven't done anything.

Personally I'd like to see another hacking group find all the personal information on the known members of anonymous/Lulsec and spread it all over thee Internet!! photos, addresses, social security numbers etc and see what they think of that. I would say post pics of their loved ones too make them feel vulnerable and how their actions effect others, but their mother dearest probably knows nothing of their snot nosed teens antics and would be a little cruel on them.

Could you go too? Believe it or not, but people do interpret all-caps as YELLING and I get headaches quick from ignorance. And I love the name-calling, spot on brother, spot on.

I agree with the idea of these groups, the idea of transparency. But they go about it in far too much of a self-righteous and irresponsible way. Don't tell me you're helping me when my paid(worked)-for services are being rendered unusable. I certainly don't believe they should be jailed, but when has any group in history changed something worth changing without being prosecuted by the previous generation of ideas?

Yep,now that the group is focusing on corruption, ill spent money that even elderly family members hope they expose more.

It also shows how weak the system is.

Just keep on the righteous path and get these empowered Edited for content to man up for their wrong doing.
This would also be a good time to expose these so-called job makers, AKA rich republicans for what they really are.
Still get the tax breaks with producing zero employment opportunities.
Hack, hack, hack!

Jeff

"Yeah? they're real Heroes! all honest 19 year olds steal credit card information of innocent people for good causes. Maybe they'll buy you a life."

Wrong homeboy. They vary in age which is the way it should be. If you are old enough to vote it really doesn't matter.

Believe me.. I grew up in the '60's and 70's. The problem with the revolution at the time was it was drug driven.

Things have changed greatly.

Except for ARPANET there was no way to access so much information and get in touch with so many people at one time.

ARPANET was originally military only. Then it trickled down to major universities.
Just so happens I worked for Stanford U as student help then took a detour while getting my degree. Then returned as an engineer for SLAC (managed by Stanford, funded by the DOE)
For twenty years as a rad detection design engineer.

I used to play Star Trek via ARPANET on a dial-up 150 BAUD analog modem. It wasn't for kids. You had to input coordinates for outer space with a CLI.

Also smart guy, they have not been stealing CC info. They are exposing assholes.

Bless the kids exposing corruption.

They do go too far...but given the alternative (giving the evidence of crimes to a court who would seal the records and refuse to press charges...except on the hackers), I would say they are less in the wrong than those who they steal information from.

As for stealing credit cards, I've never seen any evidence that this group did that. On the other hand, the people they are exposing seem to be guilty of a variety of crimes...and they do them while being paid by the people they are stealing from!

I'll have to agree with the CC thing, If they were in fact responsible for the Sony servers that was simply revenge for what they did to geohotz, Though thousands if not millions of accounts and credit card information were compromised, I have yet to see any fraud come of it.

I am a banker and see whats going on in the financial industry this would have been a huge red flag had there been enough concern but like these new attacks, I feel the individual consumer is not the target by any means, the information just comes with the data dumps and not only reveals corruption but also gives the corporations a run for their money.

I can't say I agree with the way LulzSec is going about it but then again I don't really have any gripes about it either.

What pretends to be law enforcement in the USA demonstrates their disregard for the Constitution, especially the Bill of Rights.

LE can lie to anyone in the name of justice, but if a citizen does the same, it becomes a crime. Where is the equity? As Boxer so wisely stated in Animal Farm: "All pigs are equal; but some pigs are more equal". LE does not like having the same done to them...perhaps they are more (or less) equal.

cops can access most our records or bug our phones without our permission. If they honestly have nothing to hide i dont see why they'd care if we got information about them.

On another note last year cops knocked on my door several times (november of last year) looking for some doug guy that i dont even know.the only guy named doug that i can even think of was a guy my female neighbour rang a lot of times from my phone.I barely spoke a word to him over the phone, never met him face to face and i moved out of that area in june of 09 and havnt had contact with anyone in that area since.the cops havnt knocked on my door looking for him since i got a new phone.

I think the thing that is missing here is constraint. It's one thing to post evidence of incompetence and misconduct. It's quite another to post data about active investigations which the names of witnesses and confidential informant may be included. While I haven't seen the data that has been released, one could assume, from the speed the data was released, that it hasn't been fully vetted, and could possibly end up getting someone killed. Something to think about, for sure.
