Noobie Ripping Question

First off I would like to say that this site looks great! i'm a REALLY BIG noobie when it comes to computers so sorry if this is a really stupid question.

I was planning to buy a DVD Rom in a couple days when I get some cash, and then maybe a couple weeks later i'll get a DVD burner.

Anyways my question is about the DVD rom: If I get this DVD rom installed in my comp can i rip the dvd's to my harddrive or do I need the DVD burner to rip them to my harddrive?

yes you can and just burn them later
