I have Nero, DVD decrypter, DVD shrink dvd2one and Alchol20 and cdrwin.
I can easily burn psx games no problem but I want to burn my dvd's to cdrw and I want to know step by step which programs to use in what order and when and how to split it if need be and how to make it work on my dvd player. I usually figure these things out but I just started on this one and I need a guide to get started.

Did you check out our "Guides" section perchance?

and I thought I asked dumb questions

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

Well its nice to see people willing to be so nice and helpful but yes I did check out the guide section that is where I got some of the programs from, I have a movie on file I used the decrypter and the shrinker and when I try to use Nero to burn it, it tells me that it can only be burned on a DVD writer disc and I only have cdrom/cdrw and I want to know what I need to do to get it to copy to a cdrw and that I have not figured out yet as I just started doing this considering I make perfect copies of cd's and psx games and I done it all on my own without any help
I do not suppose I am so dumb as up until now I have not had to ask a question about making copies or even overwriting copyrights so if someone would be kind enough to help me get over this little hurdle I have encountered and tell me how to get my movie on to a cdrw disc I would appreciate it.

Just for the record, I don't think you asked a dumb question, but you should have given more information because judging from your post title and the little information you gave it was easy for people to mistake you for the kind of people we get here all the time who don't take the time to read anything (including the rules). Since you're apparently not one of those people, welcome to our little forum!

Back to your question. Before anyone can answer it you need to let us know what you're going to play it on. If you're playing it on a standalone you need to figure out what's compatible with your player. There are 4 basic formats to check for. VCD and SVCD are the most common. Of the 2, SVCD is higher quality, but VCD is probably supported by more players. Fortunately many players that support VCD but not SVCD can still play SVCDs with something called the VCD Header Trick.

Besides those formats there's also miniDVD (just DVD files on a CD-R) and MPEG-4 (Divx, Xvid, etc,...). Very few players support MPEG-4 playback because unlike the other formats I've mentioned it requires different hardware for playback. A lot more players support miniDVD, but it's not very useful for movies due to length and bitrate limitations.

You should start by looking up your DVD player at http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

All the entries are user submitted, so you should take all the information there with a grain of salt, but it's an excellent place to see other people's experiences with a particular player. After you look there, come back if you have any questions about what you can/should convert your movies into and we can point you in the right direction.

if you have a dvd burner your best bet is dvdr, but if you only have a cd burner get DVDx, its a freeware program that easily converts dvds to vcds.

Before I bought a DVD burner I transferred DVDs to SVCD format. I used DVD2SVCD which worked excellent.

Thanks for the help and I am sorry I was not more direct. I have not any got to the point of seeing what my DVD players supports because I dont what format or file ext. my movie needs to be in to burn to a cdr disc. I have copied my movie to the hard drive, decrypted it and shrinked it. It will play back on my pc but when I try to burn it to a disc using any of the burning software it either says these are dvd files and are not compatible or there is not enough space on the disc or this is for dvdr only or the program I am trying to use cant read that particular file format. I guess what I am looking for is how to get it onto a cdrw and how to split it if it requires more than one disc and what file ext does it need to be in. If I had a dvdr I could do this no problem but its getting it onto the cdrw that is givng me the trouble. I am going to get a dvd burner but I would still like to know how to do this.
Once again I appreciate your feedback and I will check out the sights you suggested.
Thank You

Don't worry too much about the spelling. You haven't posted anything I couldn't read. Check out your player in the database I mentioned and then let us know what formats it can handle and hopefully we can point you in the right direction.

I'll do some looking and get back to you - probably tomorrow because it's almost my bed time. I'm guessing it will support VCD, maybe SVCD, and probably the VCD header trick if not. I'll let you know what I find.

Okay, I think you misunderstood what information I needed (which I would have known if I'd paid more attention). The model you listed is your burner. You don't need to worry about formats for your burner because it will burn whatever you need. What you need to check on is the DVD player you want to play them on. That's what determines which format you need to use. Look that up in the DVD player database I linked to and see what it plays. We'll get you sorted out yet.

I went ahead and did some searching myself, and there aren't any Nutec players listed in the database. Since I also couldn't find any pages in English and didn't want to go through the hassle of translating pages one after another until I found one with useful information, I was going to suggest downloading CD images that they have links to on the same site as the database, but I just tried the links and the site they refer to doesn't seem to be responding. Hopefully you can find some information because otherwise we're at the point where it's trial and error - meaning you'd have to make a VCD or SVCD and try it out in your player.

I used the DVD2SDVD and it took about 12 hours but it finished now I have cue files and I played them on a virtual player first and it only plays half the movie, there are alot of different files listed in the folder that the movie was copied to. Where is the rest of the movie and how do I use the bin files and what else to I need to do? I am getting very frustrated here as I have never had this much trouble figuring out anything and I sure dont know anyone else who can do even what I can already do much less this so for those of you who have done this successfully what am I doing wrong and once I have the whole movie how do I split it into 2 or more disc.
Please help me I am just so uggh I dont want to give up but I need some help here.

Believe it or not you're almost there. There should be 2-3 .cue files and 2-3 .bin files to go with them. Those are CD images which you can burn using Alcohol. DVD2SVCD automatically split the movie across multiple disc images so you don't need to worry about that. Just start Alcohol and select the Image Burning Wizard on the left. When the wizard starts you'll need to use the Browse button to find the first CUE file. After that, follow the wizard (if you can't figure it out look in Alcohol's help) to burn the first image. Repeat for each image that DVD2SVCD created. If everything was done correctly you'll have an SVCD that's ready to play on your standalone. Let us know how it goes ;)

Forgive my ethusiasm but I have been working on this for week. It only took me a couple of hours to figure out how to do the playstation games.
Once again Thank You Heaps.

Well, yes and no. If you want to keep using DVD2SVCD you would have to buy a copy of CCE SP which is about $2000. It's a lot faster (at least twice as fast) but obviously $2000 is a lot of money to make SVCDs. Alternatively you could do all the things DVD2SVCD does yourself, but that will require a little more learning. The advantage is that you can use CCE Basic (only $58) instead because you don't have to worry about another program being able to run it. It's not terribly difficult, but it requires a little bit of reading.

I haven't really worked with SVCD that much, and when I did I had a copy of CCE SP available so I just used DVD2SVCD and concentrated on tweaking it instead of learning the manual steps. If you want more help with this I'd recommend posting a new thread on the VCD/SVCD forum so our SVCD experts will notice it. You should be able to get any help you need. For now you should probably just watch your movie and appreciate getting past the hardest part. It gets a lot easier from here.
