I have used PowerDVD since version 3 with my Liteon DVD ROM and system. All the equipment has worked together before.
Recently PowerDVD v 5, with the December 2003 patch, stopped working in DVD mode. It works fine in file mode for non DVD files. When I try to pay an ordinary movie dvd, I get the DVD Auto Resume box saying that the title's playback was interrupted before completion and asking you to start at the beginning or where you left off. This happens to all DVDs, including new ones. Regardless of how I respond, the program then begins to open the DVD and then I see the word "stop"
on the screen and it does nothing else. The program gives no error message. The DVD never plays.
I have tried uninstalling and installing the program, both from the CD and with the patch, and nothing makes a difference. The same thing happens again.
My system is a AMD K 6 III, 400 Mhz with Win98 SE and ATI Radeon 9000 video card. I recently updated by chip set drivers and video driver. The upgrades made no difference.
I recently upgraded to Directx 9.0b from 8. I think, but am not certain, that the problem began after then. It could have begun when I upgraded my video card from a Rage Pro to the Radeon but I didn't realize it because I wasn't using it at the time.
My only known system problem is that the dxdiag Direct3d acceleration, test direct 3d 9 doesn't work. Dxdiag simply ends and returns to the desktop with no error messages.
I have tried turning off hardware acceleration in PowerDVD configuration, video, and that made no difference. I did the same by disabling Direct3d acceleration in dxdiag, and that made no difference.
I have tried some other DVD players. Media Player Classic plays the same DVD, as does mv2player. mv2player uses the cybverlink mpeg2 decoder.
