Hi there I am posting this message in the aid of maybe finding a solution to my problem.

I currently have Nero 5.5.4 installed on my computer which I am running Win 2000 professional.

I am having problems trying to do a CD-Copy from one SCSI device to another.

I am running the SCSI card 2930AU and a TEACCD-R58S burner.

Everytime I try and run a CD copy it hangs and freezes on "Genreating Relocation Information".....

I have just updated the ASPI drivers which are now the current 4.71 I think they are, but I am still having this problem.

If anyone knows of a solution for this I would really like to hear it, as I am about to start tearing my hair out......

Hi there, after some investigation I am actually seeing that I am getting a system error where it usually means there is a problem with the SCSI device or termination of the devices themselves....

from below:-

Event Type: Error
Event Source: aic78xx
Event Category: None
Event ID: 11
Date: 15/10/2002
Description:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Scsi\aic78xx1.
Data:

0008: 00 00 00 00 0b 00 04 c0 .......À
0010: 24 50 00 c1 00 00 00 00 $P.Á....
0018: 23 04 00 00 00 00 00 00 #.......

not trying to sound like a pessimist, but a controller error sounds like the circuits are fried on the drive.. any chance this is under warranty?

See the other things it that I can read from the device fine not a problem, it was working prior to my upgrade on the computer... nothing else has changed except for the computer it is sitting in....

So it cannot be the circuits as I am still able to read from the device etc etc.....

ok.. controller error, only when getting ready to write.. usually this means it tries to access the drive using DMA.. does this have any DMA settings you could check?

No that I am aware of, I have looked at all settings, even undewr the SCSI card adapter to ensure that all termination is forced.

All SCSI id's are ok, just does not want to start correctly using nero.

ok, you mentioned pc upgrade.. since you have new hardware with windows 2000, the hardware is too new for the O/S built in drivers, you will definitely need udpated Mother board drivers, especially if you have VIA chipset.. if you do, don't get the drivers from your MOBO manufacturer, instead get them here: http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2 .. if not VIA, check with the mobo manufacturer for updated drivers, check intel.com for intel chipsets, etc..

What do you mean exactly by "all terminations are forced" ?
Has the SCSI controller automatics terminators, or are there jumpers on the card ? Are the drives both internal ? Are there other SCSI devices on the controller ? Where on the cable are they plugged ? And which devices are terminators ?

Do your drives work on their own ( not copying a cd ), Have they different id's ?

Hi there,

Yes they are terminated correctly, the card is also set for automatic termination. They were working prior to my computer upgrade.

They eachhave their own ID's, both are able to read data just fall over when nero tries to open it as a burner.

Unless there is one internal, and one external, there should be one at least that must not be terminated.

Hi there,

all is termintated correctly.

I installed CDRWin and with it using its own APTI drivers it burns fine.

I think the problem is with NERO 5.5.4 and the aic78xx drivers.......

any suggestions of what I could do?

Any links to a stable version of Nero? I would really like to be able to us it for VCD svcd burning

Nero works fine with Adaptec SCSI card here, under W2K. Have you tried upgrading the SCSI card drivers at adaptec.com?

The old school is back. All hail the new http://BitBurners.com !

What other CD-R software you have installed? Could there be a conflict?

Hi there,
The only CD-R software installed on the machine is Nero 5.5.4 and CDRwim 3.9a I think it is.

There is nothing else, it was installed from a complete clean -reinstall.....

Motherboard drivers were installed correctly everything appears to be updated as it requires to....

think it might be a fault in that version of nero........
