Help..
I am new to this stuff. I have a bunch of XVid Avi files that I am trying to burn to DVD. I used AVI Codec to get the following info from one:

File : 106 MB (106 MB), duration: 0:22:20, type: AVI, 1 audio stream(s), quality: 26 %
Video : 97 MB, 610 Kbps, 25.0 fps, 384*288 (4:3), XVID = XVID Mpeg-4, Supported
Audio : 8.96 MB, 56 Kbps, 24000 Hz, 2 channels, 0x55 = MPEG Layer-3, Supported

They are all fairly the same. I need to know the best and easiest way to get them on a DVD. I have read some of the guides and tried things like WIN AVI and TMPGEnc but get some errors like unsupported file or when I use Win AVI it errors at the very end saying address error or something like that.

Please tell me the easiest way to convert and then author to DVD. How many of these AVI's can I expect to get on one disc with decent quality? Any program where I can burn several files and add chapters?

Thanks for any help

Actually I did peruse that thread but got confused as it seemed to talk about multiple ways to do this.

I think I have made the adjustments recommended to TMPGEnc to be able to create the MPG2 Files. Although it says says just MPG in the output field??? Is this correct?

Now I would also like to know what I should use to author to DVD. If I use Nero 5.5 and try to burn DVD I need all the DVD files...not the MPEG2's, right? And how do I add in several diffenet MPEG2 files from AVI to the DVD and then possibly make chapters so that I can access each episode separately?

Sorry, I am sure this has all been covered but I can not understand which programs I should use and in what steps and what is easiest. I can burn these onto VCD easy but DVD I might get better quality and fit more episodes...right?????

http://www.avi-vcd.com

look for a program called avi2mpeg

will convert your divx files for you .When you use this program by cucusoft it will do all for you .The output will give you 3 files. 1 audio
1 video
1 audio & video

from there it is simple to use Tmpgenc dvd author or something like dvd architect to finish your project by adding in menus/chapters/pics etc

1) decoding error. vbr audio in vdub/tmpg might cause this.
2) you tinker with the framerate

so which one did you do ? :)

sorry about that,

i'm guessing here that you encode it to mpeg2 yourself ?

and i'm guessing the audio (mp3?) has a variable bitrate. and that might mess thing up.

post some info on your source.

@tracker66

sory for not replying earlier.
with that kind of source, getting any decent quality won't be easy.
the resolution is already small and the audio is compressed and down sampled to 24khz, i'm not sure if your player will play 24khz. so you might need to upsampled. with this you might here something awful.

about the video, you can try to use SVCD resolution 480x480 or dvd's lower resolution i think 352x480 or if you want it in full resolution 720x480 i would suggest using avisynth and resize it.

google for it.
be warned it needs some of your time to use, its a scripting tool.
