SVCD MPEG2 file will not play with any codecs! Help please!

I have a movie that was ripped from an SVCD. It's in two parts and each part has the SVCD files and an MPG file.

I've followed the codec removal and installation guide on here but no luck. I scoured the net and found MPEG2 codecs but after installation, I don't get much except a few segments of the film image and an otherwise black screen on whichever player I use and audio which is choppy.

I know the files are okay as I can burn the files to a couple of CD-Rs and play them on a friend's DVD player. Brilliant quality files.

What is the solution to this? I know the files are supposed to be MPEG2 format but no matter which codecs I grab from the net for MPEG2, they don't work.

I tried the avi program that is supposed to tell you what codecs a file needs when you load the file, but it tells me that it's MPEG2 and that my computer supports it.

I've also tried installing the latest versions (independently) of WinDVD and PowerDVD but no difference at all.

Somebody please help as I really want to watch this movie!
