I'm on a college campus and we have free internet access but now they want to block some port against p2p software. They're gonna block those port (and maybe more but i don't know)
412 : Direct Connect
1214 : Kazaa/Morpheus
4662 à 4665 : eDonkey
6346 à 6347 : GnuTella
6699 : Napster/WinMX
Is there a way to use other ports than those? Is there a p2p prog that don't uses one of those?

In kazaa, click tools - options - firwall. You will see the port settings!. Thius still might not solve your problem and if it doesnt, swing by http://www.astalavista.com and under the privacy section you will see a list of proxy servers! Try get one free then open kazaa - tools - options - firwall and select use SOCKS5 proxy! Enter your proxy details here!.
A proxy server means a remote machine will conect to kazaa for you and will send your downloads back to you and uploads through it aswell!!
your downloads might be a little slower than b4 but you would mind that much!

BTW you can also use proxy servers on all p2p apps (all good ones anyway!).

Ok I'm behind a University firewall aswell. Can anyone tell me if it's possible to get Direct connec to work? Or perhabs tell me if DC is socks5 or socks4 ?

I have had more luck with the p2p apps that are lesser known. FileNavigator is one that comes to mind (www.filenavigator.com). But it does have problems with some firewalls...

I'd really want to use dc++ but i don't know how to bypass the limitation
(by the way i won't blame anyone if i get busted i know what i'm doing and take responsability)

I have told people that in direct connect just change the port but they have responded that direct connect will only use a changed port for uploads. So try this...
Click Start - Run - Regedit
When it comes up click the pluses beside the folders to open em up just like in Windows Explorer.
Open HKEY_CURRENT_USER - Software - Neo Modus - Direct Connect. Now click the settingf folder just once. You will see ListeningPort in the list so right click - Modify. Now change the port number to anything you want and Direct Connect will use it in future. Note that this will only work if the limitation is on the ports!

Along with all of these other guys, I too am behind a pretty heavy firewall at my school. I tried a ton of different things like hacking into a neighboring university's network but one thing that has stopped me is that my college network admin has put a block on ALL satellite applications...EVEN WINDOWS UPDATE! They're morons I know, but I want to either find an HTTP based filesharer or a way to crash the wall altogether. Any legal help would be appreciated.

I found the string for dc connect but i don't have the soft anymore.
I'm actually using dc++, is there a similar trick?

Go to your software's registry folder and right click - find/search (depends on what op you have!). Search the value as the port number your software uses it on and you might find it that way!

I'm new on this forum, but i can tell u this:
If you're able to install progs, you probably want 2 try the combination of the following programs:
-socks2http
-any tiny socks-proxy program.
You let your p2p-program connect to the socks-proxy, which is running on your local PC. Then, you let the socks-proxy connect to the internet through socks2http. This program does exactly what its name tells you: convert socks-traffic to http-traffic. Since in virtually every network, HTTP traffic is allowed (just find out what port to connect to your network-proxy, but that should be easy), you should be able to run any socks program through a firewall. Unless you have to do with a very sophisticated firewall whichs looks INSIDE the packets and sent files, this solution should work just fine.

Hey. I tried all the socks2http crap but for the life of me I couldn't get it to work. One thing I did realize is that my college's firewall doesn't block ftp servers. This is so they can use them to update the college's web site. Now that I know they will work I need to find some public ftp servers. I used to look for them at audiogalaxy.com but that got shut down a while back. Any other ways to find public ftp servers?

i've tried socks2http but it doesn't seems to work.
Another eird thing is that i was able to connect and dl on kazaa, nut i formatted my comp yesterday and now i can't connect. Do you know why?

Behind the college firewall here KaZaa works kinda I meen I can download from others but only the ppl behind the same firewall can download from me.
Ftp works on port 21 but not others.
Is there some way to connect to ftp sites on other ports using some socks proggie?
I would really appreciate advice.

antipop, when u re-installed windows, you removed the old registry. This includes all the connecting info. What I would recommend is to re-install kazaa!
