just got done reading loads of threads that just totally confused the crap out of me. so hopefully i can explain what i want and what equipment/software i have, and ask someone out there if i can get get what i want.

hardware: dvd-r
software: smartripper, spruceup, nero, and something called "allnonei".

i've read discussions on movies that are bigger that 4.7 gig, and how one can't burn them. why?

i also would like to know, step by step, if i could, what and how to use the software in order to copy dvds to dvd-r's.

thanks... and i'm praying that someone can and will help. i'd appreciate anything (special instructions... links to articles... etc...)

This is what I think you need to do for easiest method:

-use SmartRipper to rip the movie (just the movie -- DVDs can contain upto 18GB (flippers) of data, but DVD-R can only hold 4.7GB, so you just need to extract the _important_ part of the disc -- movie

-use some DVD authoring software that allows VOB imports -- one is Primo Prassi

-burn the image created with Prassi using Nero

...VCDHelp.com has some info, but authoring part of their site sucks, because they focus on re-encoding and you don't need to re-encode the video. But good instructions for burning anyway:
