I remember those good old days - waiting an hour to download a single MP3 file on a cranky 56K dial-up modem whilst your parents complaiend about the telephone being permanently engaged.. Ah those were the days lol.

I used to be able to manage 4MB file in about 20 minutes :P and oh my god, the phone bills my Dad used to scream about...

Yeah lol I guess in those days I wasn't the smartest bunny around trying to download 12 inch singles encoded at 320 kbps lol.
No wonder it took me an hour.
Then there were the "big guys" who had ISDN at a mega 128 kbps who used to cut you off about 5 seconds before the download was complete and then send you a message saying "sorry, you're too slow" :)

The memories...
Showed wife Napster....5 minutes later she is on the phone with cable company to get high speed cable..6 minutes later she is on the way to Best Buy for a CD burner and blank CDs, 2 days later I am buying a larger hard drive from Newegg. We were all like kids in a candy store back then...

Ahh yes the massive phone bills. I got in so much trouble with my folks too over those napster on 56k induced phones bill lol. Makes you wonder what those growing up in this decade will remember 10 years from now.

i had 1.5mbit dsl connection back then. was 60 bucks a month. i was on napster day and night lol. i knew about napster before it really blew up. was just us college kids getting on and then it started spreading like wildfire. i was hitting up usenet and irc for music before napster came along and once napster started dying there was kazaa, morpheus, bearshare etc but everybody was still skittish and rightly so because those programs were virus magnets. i went back to usenet and irc and then bittorrent came out and then the alternate clients but most of them sucked lol. i was blown away when utorrent finally came out because it didn't rape my machine. i remember it all. i feel so old.

Oh man....hearing everyone talk about Napster brings me back. I remember when we had gotten our first computer and I discovered Napster in early 2000. Trying to d/l on a 56k modem, and only having a 4GB HDD on the desktop....I filled that up in no time. I remember trying to store as many songs onto cd's as possible, as I kept running out of space on my hard drive.
After Napster, I tried Bearshare, but I deleted it after it was trying to make me add on some nasty crap on the computer, and then switched to Morpheus.
When I was finally able to afford a computer with a 20GB HDD, i had found WinMX....and loved that for a few years.....till they got raided and shut down their servers.

No, No, NO!
Had Napster from the less-than-legal times to now and this could be VERY bad VERY quick. Have a Napster ToGo subscription and rip tracks to put on my iPod. If they change the track encoding from it's current WMA format that could go sideways VERY quick for me... Not sure where else I can get an ala-carte all-you-can-download music subscription that works with crApple's iPod.
Doesnt expecting the unexpected make the unexpected expected and therefore mean youre expecting the expected which was the unexpected until you expected it?

Damn, can somebody please crank up that dusty old time machine and send us back to those good old days. I remember back in 2002 when I got my first HP desktop slow Celeron 667 MHz but I got decent speed of 386KBps the "budget" choice back then, and my cable extended from the box to my modem 430 feet as the box was right at the road and my house was in the back of our property, anyways, I would download from dusk till dawn on my days off as I was working at Best Buy at the time, building a collection from my CDs and Kazaa and later on Limewire. Ah, those were the days of no caps or throttling either, just bliss of pure Internet freedom.
